Pl Sql Developer Out Of Memory Error

Comments If you work with large SQL files in Oracle SQL Developer you will get out of memory errors from the Java VM it runs within. To fix this problem, you need to increase the Xmx (maximum heap size) from the default 128MB. If you start SQL Developer by sql developer java heap space error creating a desktop shortcut to SQL Developer.exe, you cannot pass the -Xms parameter and instead need

to edit the sqldevelopersqldeveloperbinsqldeveloper.conf file, adding the following line:-
AddVMOption -Xmx1024M The file is not formatted with the correct line endings (I guess from Linux/Java sql developer import open file error build) so you will need to open it with a smart text editor like Visual Studio 2005 or later, which then correctly detects and terminates the lines, otherwise it appears as one big line in Notepad. Thank you sql developer memory leak so much for this useful and helpful tip. Reply Alex Lu says: 13 March 2013 at 12:18 Hi I need to use the developer tool to open a 271MB sql file. I added AddVMOption -Xmx1024M I still get the same error msg when I tried to open the file. Reply Code Chief says: 24 March 2013 at 16:56 Sorry I can't help with that. The extended memory settings will help with relatively large (20MB+) files but at some point there will always be a limit (try opening 40MB or more in Windows Notepad). Perhaps you are using a large export file to insert or migrate test or production data? In that case I would look for another standard command line tool from Oracle for bulk export and import. Actually I'm more of an SQL Server specialist, in which case I would be using the BCP utility. Perhaps a search on BCP alternatives for Oracle would help. Good luck! Reply Josh says: 9 April 2013 at 00:11 Alex, you may attempt to up the heap space further. In his example, he uses 1024M (~1GB) but when I needed more to open a file that was >200mb, I up'd this config file line to 2048 and it still worked, like a charm! Reply Alex lu says: 9 April 2013 at 10:07 Thanks. Will give it a try. Meanwhile I worked around it by migrating "online" instead of offline. I am close to assume that the problem lies not with the PL/SQL Function but with the calling mechanism. –René Nyffenegger Apr 26 '10 at 7:10 1 Yup.. We need more details. –Guru Apr 27 '10 at 5:23 Since you said, you are doing a sort, can you check sort_area_size ? You might also try increasing it. Check out stackoverflow.com/questions/1874044/… –Guru Apr 27 '10 at 5:25 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote accepted The error you are getting is presumably ORA-04030: out of process memory. This means your process is hitting a memory limit. (like, durr). Why doesn't it hit you when you call the function in a query? Who can tell? Perhaps you are sorting different amounts of data? Perhaps there are different ambient conditions? This error might indicate you're running out of RAM but alternatively it could mean you're running out of swap (i.e. disk space). If it is RAM and you have some spare capacity you can increase pga_aggregate_target. If it is swap then you need to get your sysadmin guys on the case. share|improve this answer answered Apr 30 '10 at 11:17 APC 87.3k1384184 1 A batch job may be running with different linguistic (NLS_LANG / NLS_TERRITORY) settings. –Gary Myers May 2 '10 at 23:19 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using G

I have been using Oracle's SQL Developer for a while now. It is a capable AND free tool and I highly recommend it to anyone that works with Oracle's (or other) databases. However, on my WindowsXP development workstations with 4G of memory, SQL Developer ends up consuming up to 700-800 Mb of memory. The starting memory foortprint of the application is about 250 Mb. From there on it seems to climb rapidly. As a result the application, eventually becomes unresponsive, and I have to kill it and restart it. Recently, after researching the problem for a while, there appears to be a simple solution to this memory issue. It's hidden in the application Preferences. Open Preference (Under Tools) and change the option for the Look and Feel from the default Oracle value to Windows. The application will need to be restarted for these changes to take place and (perhaps) it may no longer look as appealing to your vis

When i am running a select * on hr_pump_batch_lines (one of the tables in Oracle R12) i am getting "Out of Memory" Error. There is no other messages on the error window. I can continue working normally after this, it happens only when i query this table. I can see the data if i use F4 and goto Data tab. The table has only 50 rows in it. The error happens even if i add a where clause to it. I can query the table from SQL Developer. Why this is happening and is there a solution? I really dont want to jump back and forth in tools and i really like Toad. Create an account to join the discussion.
