Enter The Full Pathname For Java.exe Sql Developer
down vote favorite 1 I just installed Oracle 11g, and tried to start Oracle SQL developer so as to start writing queries. It is asking me: Enter the full pathname for the java.exe file . Where do I find this? I did a global search for java.exe and am sure did not get some Oracle related pdf files. The client that I have installed is 11.2.0. I've got a new laptop with 64bit Windows 7. I've downloaded the latest SqlDeveloper 3 64 bit without the JDK (because that's the only choice I had) from OTN. I clicked on the link in the SQLDeveloper download section for the latest https://community.oracle.com/thread/2251884 JDK and I downloaded the 64 bit version (jdk-6u26-windows-x64.exe). I have installed the jdk-6u26-windows-x64.exe application which created several different java.exe files....however, regardless of which java.exe I try i get the same "Cannot find a J2Se SDK installed at..." error message. Please, can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong ? This doesn't seem like it should be this complicated but apparently I've hosed up something. Thanks in advance to those that help ! Are you asked to locate java.exe on every startup? You can always force JDK in \sqldeveloper\bin\sqldeveloper.conf : SetJavaHome C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_16Hope that helps, K. After shutting down my PC last oracle sql developer night and booting it up again this morning, every time I try to run it, I get this message: "Enter the full pathname for java.exe" I browse to C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\java.exe where the EXE is located and I get this message: "Cannot find a J2SE SDK installed at path C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\java.exe" What could be the issue here when it was working just fine yesterday? I will add that my PC did freeze last night during shutdown, so I ended up having to power it off, but I don't know if that's relevant. I reinstalled Java and it still gives the same message. I also downloaded SQL Developer without the SDK and get the same message. I will also add that I am not actually installing SQL Developer, just running the executable from the folder. I don't think you actually install it anyway. Anyone know what could be causing this? Back to Article List Unable to Set the Path To java.exe When Running Oracle SQL Developer Under Windows 7 05/22/2014 1:08PM Ryan I was trying to run Oracle SQL Developer for the first time on a new machine. When firing it up, it presented me with a dialog box asking me to "Enter the full pathname for the java.exe file". OK, no problem. So I find the path to the java.exe binary that was just installed with the SDK. Hit submit . . . and nothing happens. It blanks out the text field and the dialog box stares back at me. I tried pointing it to the java.exe that was in the jre dir. No joy. After a lot of futzing around and doing some searches it turns out that there are a few things that you have to do to get it to run for the first time. First, right-click on the Oracle SQL Developer short-cut and select "Run as Administrator". Then, in the dialog box, click Browse and navigate to the JDK that comes with the Oracle install. For me it was in C:\Oracle11G\11.2.0.3\jdk\bin\java.exe Once I did that it fired right up. I then quit, and ran it as my user and it seemed to start up just fine.
