[MSFT] Guest Re: System error 53 when mapping a DFS link over a VPN connection Have the client connect using VPN and try to connect to the DFS Root. When it fails have him run "dfsutil /pktinfo > pktinfo.txt" and see if he is getting referrals. If he is getting referrals and they are NetBIOS names make sure the VPN client can resolve the NetBIOS Names. If they fail to resolve try the following: Make WINS available for VPN clients or Add Hosts file with both IP to host name and IP to FQDN or Add DNS suffix search order for the domain in the VPN IP settings -- David Everett Microsoft Corporation This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. I rebooted my machine and now when http://www.pcreview.co.uk/threads/dfs-system-error-53-when-mapping-a-dfs-link-over-a-vpn-connection.1482361/ I do \\domain\share i get an error sayings its unavailable. I log into a Windows XP test box and its working fine. Anyone have any ideas where I need to start on troubleshooting this. I am not seeing any errors in the event viewer so that's no help. We did just change our Active Directory servers to two brand new boxes so not sure if that whats causing all these issues. We setup the new AD's and changed the IP addresses around to the new https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/28221055/Issues-getting-to-my-DFS-shares-from-a-Windows-7-machine.html Ad's had the old domain controllers IP's Thanks 0 Question by:ats2012 Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 14 Active 1 day ago Best Solution byRaj-GT You can only resolve using the NETBIOS name (\\domain\share) if your workstations are in the same subnet as your DC or you have NetBIOS over TCP/IP enabled in client network properties. I would also test the basics like folder permissions and AD site settings. 0 Message Author Comment by:ats20122013-08-23 My local machine is pointing to the second new domain controller. I know its not a permission issues because I logged into another machine and i am able to get to any DFS share just fine. When I try it on my machine that's not working i get net view \\domain System error 53 has occurred.
