Join Now Hello all, I am hoping there is a DOS expert out here that can system error 53 has occurred windows 2012 help. We have a very old machine that runs MS-DOS ver6.2. It is for scientific equipment that does scientific stuff. Basically according to the guy that is requesting assistance is that it USED to be able to connect https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc940100.aspx to his Server 2003 machine via 'NET USE'. I have been unable to get it to see that 2003 machine. But it does see six other computers running XP. When I type in 'net use * \\\\domain\\computer\\d' I get the error 53. Same goes with trying to assign a letter or adjusting the path to something like \\\\\\\\domain\\\\computer. What is in place that somewhat automates it is an old blue screen menu system that you can get to by https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/211980-ms-dos-ver6-2-error-53 just typing in 'net'. It auto logs in with the user and you can see those XP machines when you tab over to browse. But the Server 2003 machine is not there. Any ideas? I want to access a shared directory on the Windows-PC from the DOS-machine. Best solution system error 5 would be to assign a drive-letter to the shared directory and make that persistent. I've done this before we got new hardware, establishing that connection from the DOS-machine to a Windows XP computer worked just fine. Using Windows 7 now, it won't. Details The Windows-PC Running Windows 7 (Ultimate - or Professional, not sure right now) 64bit. There are two network cards in it, one for the logon via authentication server, internet and so on - and the second one only to build a connection to the DOS-Machine. There is a separate local user specified, with name and password. There is also a shared directory in C:\ with full acces rights to exactly that user. (That's exactly what i did when using XP) The DOS-machine It's exactly that - a machine. Not a PC. It's a CNC machine with a special control software and so on. This control software is running on DOS and the network connections are built up via DOS, too. I can't tell you which version of DOS - but scanning through the directorys i tend to say that this isn't some kind of "normal" DOS-version. Seems to be something "special"
Troubleshooting "System Error: 53 - Network Path not found" errors The information in this article applies to: DameWare Remote Support DameWare Mini Remote Control System Error: 53 ERROR_BAD_NETPATH The network path was not found. System errors are Microsoft Windows Operating System errors. Microsoft system error: 53 is not directly related to DameWare remote support software, but is a fairly common error message. The Remote Registry not running is the root cause of Microsoft Error 53. The following are some common things to check when trying to resolve a System Error: 53 - Network path not found. Verify that File & Printer Sharing is enabled on the remote machine. Ensure all the necessary File & Printer Sharing ports are open on all routers/firewalls between the local and remote machines, and in any type of firewall software on the remote machine. Confirm that the Operating System (O/S) is properly configured with regard to Names Resolution. This is important because DameWare software uses the O/S for all Names Resolution. For Example: Open a CMD prompt, then Ping the remote machine by its Host Name. Enable NetBios (i.e. NetBios over IP (NetBT/WINS), NetBios over IPX, etc.). For DameWare NT Utilities (DNTU) or DameWare Remote Support (DRS) Event Log, Properties, Processes, Registry, Services, or Software Views, verify that the Remote Registry Service is Enabled and Started manually on the remote machine. Note: this Service is not started by default under Vista. For the aforementioned views in DNTU/DRS, simply ensure the Remote Registry Service is running on the remote machine. Otherwise, this error can be easily duplicated outside of DameWare software by attempting to access the Admin$ share on the remote machine. For example: Open a CMD prompt on the local machine. Type: Net Use \\RemoteMachine\Admin$ or Net Use \\IP-Address\Admin$ Also note that File & Printer Sharing is required for all of the functionality within the DNTU/DRS software, and also by Microsoft's APIs used in the DameWare Mini Remote Control (DMRC) program to remotely install, remove, start or stop the DMRC Client Agent Service. If the remote machine is running Windows XP SP2 or Vista, then this issue is most likely related to the Windows Firewall which is enabled by default. Therefore
