Failed To Grab Execution Mutex. System Error 258 Mcafee
vote First time I've seen this occur. I'm using SCCM 2012 SP1 U2 + MDT 2012 U1 + UDI. I have 8 applications in SCCM

that I am installing via the UDI. Each application has been tested and validated on its own via the Application Catalog. I ran a few image deployments today and noticed1 or 2 of the applications were failing to install. The TS completes successfully but the app isn't installed.I can see msiexec failed to grab execution mutex. system error 258 the package downloaded successfully under C:\Windows\ccmcache and I can manually run the installer without any issues. The MSI logs reveal: MSI (c) (CC:48) [14:38:57:276]: Client-side and UI is none or basic: Running entire install on the server. MSI (c) (CC:48) [14:39:00:286]: Failed to grab execution mutex. I thought UDI handled process monitoring. Why would it be trying to execute another install if 1 is still in progress? Thursday, Oct

However https://community.flexerasoftware.com/showthread.php?202265-Failed-to-grab-execution-mutex-System-error-258 this is still happening during a Windows Installer session, so when my EXE tries to install another MSI it is unsuccessful. Ideally I would like for the bootstrapper to run my EXE after it's system error done with Windows Installer - is this possible? I've tried the post-install steps - but this doesn't let me use an installed EXE, and also keeps writing "pre-requisite" in the UI whereas I want some custom text (e.g. "Please complete the configuration wizard once it loaads").Thanks for any help!Eugene Top Dan Posts: 3974 Joined: Wed Apr 24, 2013 3:51 pm Re: Can't launch an EXE after installation that installs system error 258 MSI Quote Postby Dan » Mon Feb 17, 2014 11:17 am Hello Eugene and welcome to Advanced Installer forums,I'm not sure I fully understand your scenario. Can you please give us more details about your specific scenario (maybe exemplify)? Is your .EXE an installation package? If it is, then you can add as a prerequisite in the Prerequisites page. You can also attach your .AIP(project file) so we can have a better view about this.Best regards,Dan Dan Ghiorghita - Advanced Installer TeamFollow us: Twitter - Facebook - YouTube Top Eug Posts: 8 Joined: Sun Feb 16, 2014 8:43 am Re: Can't launch an EXE after installation that installs MSI Quote Postby Eug » Mon Feb 17, 2014 11:30 am Hi Dan,Thanks for the welcome. My Advanced Installer project installs the main application as well as a configuration wizard that downloads, installs, and configures an SQL Server Express database. I would like this configuration wizard to run after or as part of the AI install. Currently I've set AI to run the configuration wizard as a custom action scheduled afer InstallFinalize, but the installation of SQL Server fails as it also tries to use the MSI engine - the error is "Failed to grab execution mutex. System error 258".Thanks

System error 258 I'm getting this error when executing a chained MSI within a basic MSI project. At the moment, I only have 1 chained MSI but will need to include about a dozen of them. I see in the log that for some reason, the chained msi executes successfully but on return I get this error which causes the chained package to rollback. Any suggestions? I'm stumped. I'm using as a prerequisit windows installer 4.5 which should allow chaining. I'm testing on a windows 7 machine which has installer version 5 so not sure why this is happening. I've been wasting a ton of time trying to resolve this problem without a solution Reply With Quote 08-08-2012,10:01 AM #2 trevorp View Profile View Forum Posts User (5+ Posts) Join Date Jul 2012 Posts 6
