I have an Asus Eee pc 901 laptop running on Windows XP. When I power it up I get the following error message popping up: lsass.exe - System Error Insufficent system resources exist to complete the API. The only option available is to click OK, which reboots and ends up back at the same error. I've tried starting in safe mode, but that leads to the same error. Windows XP Professional is the only option available in the "select operating system" screen. I've also tried booting from "Last Known Good Configuration" which also brought me to the same error. When I restarted the PC I received the following error: Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM I then followed this Microsoft Support article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545 However, I didn't read the following: "Warning - Do not use the procedure that is described in this article if your computer has an OEM-installed operating system.
