do you have the Acrobat PPT or Office add-in(s) installed? If I were you, I'd close PPT, search for all *.PPA files (these are PPT add-ins), rename them to *.OLD, and see if PPT works better. If it does, close PPT and rename the *.OLD files back to *.PPA one at a time until you isolate the problem add-in. Of course, you'll need to turn on file extensions in Windows to be able to do this. http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00034.htm

Someone mentioned in his reply that it also happens in Excel and Word - I can't verify this. I will try out your suggestion within the next few days and let you know the outcome. Many thanks for your help. Fairly frequently I am getting a system error which I have copied to the attached Word document. I cannot see any consistent state that triggers the error but I wonder if it is related to auto recover. Any clues or guidance would be most welecome!! This error is often caused by a problem with one or more forms. Couple of alternatives... (1) Post the file here. (2) Export and delete all forms, save and close the file. Recycle Excel, open the file and reimport all forms. Regards, Brian. 0 Message Author Comment by:NormanMitchell2012-12-07 Hi Brian, Thankyou for the prompt response. I deleted all the user forms and re-imported them as you suggested but the error still appears from time to time. I tghink it might be related to one form - frmInspections - which I will rebuild from the ground up. Manewhile I have attached a sanitised version of the workbook for you to look at. System Error &H80004005 (-2147467259). Welshbird (IS/IT--Management) (OP) 26 Jul 11 03:54 I occasionally get this message appearing, at which point Excel closes, and much though it recovers anything in the spreadsheet it loses any VBA I've written.Yesterday this lost me 3 and a half hours of work. Boo as they say...I've discussed with my IT department, and they don't really know why this happens. We ran a check on my physical machine overnight, just in case in was the memory or something (which it seems not to be) but all I can find when I Google says this is a 'stack overflow'.The models I'm working with are all rather small, and in fact yesterday when this happened I only had 6 cells with data.I'm trying to make myself be more disciplined in clicking the save button, but any other thoughts would be extremely welcome right now.(As an aside - is there any way to get my VBE to autosave regularly? That might at least be a work-around for the problem.)Oh, no pattern to when this happens - nothing in the event log either, so we're all clueless over here. Thanks chaps. TonyJollans (Programmer) 26 Jul 11 04:55 If there's really no consistency to when it happens, then it's most likely due to a build up of something behind the scenes, or abitrary memory being overwritten. Stack overflow ought to be trapped by VBA but if it really
