and rise to the top net use command - system error 5 while mapping a network drive up vote 1 down vote favorite I got a system error 5 while mapping a network drive of a server to my local machine using the net use command. This error doesn't occur when I use Administrator account of the server. When I use my user account the net use command gives how to bypass system error 5 access denied system error 5. Like, for example: C:\Documents and Settings\w00tw00tw00t>net helpmsg 5 Access is denied. C:\Documents and Settings\w00tw00tw00t> So, you're getting an "Access is denied". What's the share you're trying to access? Are you seeing anything in the "Security Log" on the server computer re: failures? share|improve this answer edited Sep 24 '09 at 1:54 answered Sep 24 '09 at 1:31 Evan Anderson 127k12145287 OP stated "But, my user account is added to the Administrators group on the server." –Wesley Sep 24 '09 at 1:40 Yeah-- reading is hard. >smile< –Evan Anderson Sep 24 '09 at 1:46 I k

5 Windows Server > Security Question 0 Sign in to vote I'm trying to map a drive to Windows 2008 server from my WIN7 PC. I use the following to do so: NET USEZ: PathPassword /User:User1 When I use this I ge http://serverfault.com/questions/68223/net-use-command-system-error-5-while-mapping-a-network-drive the System Error 5 - Access denied error. User1 is an account that is part of the administrators group. When I use the built in/default user 'Administrator' credentials, it maps fine. Perplexed that 'User1' is getting the error when it is in the Admin group the same as the Administrator user. Please temporarily disable UAC to have a test and enable it after that. If the problem continues, please collect the following information: 1. Are these computers in a domain? 2. Did you try to run the command on the Windows 7 computer? 3. What do you mean by "These are local accounts on the server"? Community! Creating your account only takes a few minutes. Join Now Greetings. We have an old AS400, V4. There is a computer which has a mapped network drive pointing to files on that machine. I am "fixing" an old VB5 program to update it, but need that https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/484048-as400-mapping-a-network-drive mapped drive. Our new machines (and my laptop) are running Windows 7. I can map the drive as \\as400\library with the user/password on any XP machine, but it will not map on Windows 7. We reset the passwords on the AS400 to the known passwords for the two accounts used by that program, but it still does not work. Any suggestions? The only thing I might need to do is fake out the program for now to step through and figure out what it is doing. But system error I believe the program writes to the AS400 and that gets interpreted/handled on the AS400 somehow. So we'd have to figure out how to get the data out and then back in again. It would be oh so simple if I could just map it on my machine... I was getting worried about not getting any responses : ) I do have Client Access installed and it does prompt me for the username and password when I type in the address. That's where I'm stuck. I've tried every known/possible combination to no avail. I also have documentation that says what to type in for the password (and to not modify the user ID), but that doesn't work either... 0 Habanero OP Randy1699 Apr 28, 2014 at 10:11 UTC Open a command window (DOS screen) net use f: \\ipaddress\library
