If the remote host does not answer when it is pingued by its hostname but answer when pingued with its IP address, please check on the remote host the DNS properties. This point should be considered because a good many functionalities of our products use the name resolution when trying to to access remot hosts. - Check on the local computer and on the remote host that there is no security hardware or software blocking or filtering the communication between the local and remote machines (firewall / antivirus / router ...). If necessary rules have to be instaured (port opening, port translation ...) in order to allow the communication between the two machines.- Please be careful with Vista computer because the network security is increased. Typo in the post, woops. I tried a variety of different drive letters, including ones that I successfully mapped to other servers (I unmapped them before trying with this one).Sorry for the confusion. 0Votes Share Flag Collapse - Does the folder exists? by sbx14 路 10 years ago In reply to system error 53 with net ... If you use %username% variable to create a user folder with net use command, it will return the error 53 as net use cannot create the user folder for you. Otherwise check if the folder exists and then its share and NTFS permissions. 0Votes Share

Used to be simple in the old days now it's hit or miss. Most things that I try give me System Error 53. I went through a lot last weekend and got it to work, but this weekend no dice. I see a lot of hits on the Net for System Error 53, but I wasn't able to get a solid solution yet. Only one hit here. It would seem that the XP Machine is not making external connections available but what would stop it? The target machine is my XP SP3 machine from work. It is on a company domain. I created a share that corresponds to the root of a D: partition called DriveD. I created a local user named Rich that has full access to the share. Simple file sharing is on. On the Windows 7 machine I execute the following: NET USE M: \\XPMach\DriveD /user:Rich mypassword System Error 53 The network path was not found. NET USE M: \\192.168.1.8\DriveD /user:Rich mypassword System Error 53 The network path was not found. NET VIEW \\192.168.1.8 System Error 53 The network path was not found. I can certainly ping the IP address, but not the PC name (XPMach). I can ping both on the XP machine and I can MAP a share using both on the XP machine itself. NET VIEW with the \XPMach name works on the XP machine, but not with the IP address. Neither work on the Win 7 machine, but since it doesn't work with the IP on the XP machine, I'm not surprised. We see the desired share in the list on the XP machine. I set the Windows 7 workgroup name to mach my domain name from work, I thought that was what made it work last week. I seem to remember a registry setting that enabled external sharing after SP2, but I can't find it. security map drive share|improve t
