Now I am trying to map a P drive and a G drive on a Win7 box on our domain. I can't change the drive letters because every computer in the company has them the same way.
System Error 1314
When I do a 'net use' it shows no entries. When I run: net the local device name is already in use windows 7 use P: \\server\folder The command completed successfully net use G: \\server\folder2 system error 85 has occurred.
System Error 86
The local device name is already in use. When I google system error 85, they all say delete the drives and start over. So I do 'net use * /d', but it doesn't delete any drives other than the https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/253821 P. If I navigate to the folder to map it there, F-J are missing as options, even though none are in use. I've joined and quit the domain, the same thing happens either way. Anyone have any ideas how to get the mapping to work to the correct letter? If so can you change the drive letter assigned to current G. Then try adding your networked drive as G? 5 Datil OP Rob Annable Jan 10, 2014 at 2:08 UTC Are you running command prompt as you or the user? Is the drive letter that is in use, used by removable devices? If so change them to letters at the end of the alphabet using disk management. 1 Anaheim OP gabefroman Jan 10, 2014 at 2:21 UTC Thanks Z-Ethan, it wasn't showing up under My Computer, but Disk Management had the G: assigned. 1 This discussion has been inactive for over a year. Definitely unnerving and can be quite difficult to troubleshoot, especially when you system error have very little experience mapping network drives. This is not the only error of its type, as system error 67 has similar characteristics (although not identical), to this error. The unfortunate thing about this error, and virtually every other error you encounter on Windows based systems, is that there is very little in way of information provided by Microsoft on how to properly combat them. System error 85 happens when a user attempts to map system error 85 a particular resource to a network drive. To put it simply, this error is caused by a user attempting to use a network drive letter that is already in use by another network drive. The error may occur while mapping a network drive in Windows or while doing the same using NET USE commands. What Is the System Error 85? Terminal Services is a Windows component that enables users to remotely access files and applications over a network. In most cases, when a user works on a computer, within a networked environment, the computer will usually access applications, and folders that are shared across the network, for the purpose of increased productivity and efficiency. However, in order for this to work, the Microsoft service called Terminal Services must be running. Now let’s talk about how this particular service links to the system error 85. When a user attempts to map a Distributed File System (DFS) resource to a network drive using a drive letter that was previously used by another resource, the user may receive the following error message: System error 85 has occurred. The local device name is already in use. This error will usually only persist for a particular drive letter, but that depends on a number of factors. In any terminal service session, a single drive letter can only be
