ntvdm error when running mgtools Discussion in 'Malware Removal' started by bankok, Mar 14, 2010. bankok Private E-2 Hi, I recently discovered that my computer had infections, most notably my browser firefox freezes and crashes for no reason. I followed the malware removal guide "Windows XP Cleaning Procedure" in your malware removal guide, and all went smoothly until running MGtools. Here I encountered the error "NTVDM has encountered a System Error. NTVDM has encountered a System Error c0h Choose 'Close' to terminate the application" I clicked ignore and got an mgtools log, but I am concerned that the browser crashing problem has not been fixed. Based on other posts, I suspect that I have a Master Boot Record Infection, but I am not sure and don't know how to correct it. What do you recommend ps- windows built-in firewall was active when running scans; if this was problem let me know. All other programs were disabled. Double click HelpAsst_mebroot_fix.exe to run the tool. When the tool completes it will inform you HelpAssistant was successfully removed, or it may require a reboot. DO NOT reboot at this point if it tells you this. Do the below first. With Windows Explorer, navigate to the C:\MGtools folder and double click on mbrfix.bat ( If not sure how to use Windows Explorer, you can optionally click Start > Run and enter C:\MGtools\mbrfix.bat into the run box and click OK. ) This will run quickly flashing a black screen in front of you too fast to read. NOW REBOOT! After reboot run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file Make sure you tell me how things are working now! Kestrel13!, Mar 15, 2010 #3 bankok Private E-2 I followed your instructions. Here is the new MGtools log. When I reached the point where running mbrfix.bat, I still encountered the error: "NTVDM has encountered a System Error. NTVDM has encountered a System Error c0h Choose 'Close' to terminate the application". I discovered after f
