Also, it is noticed that the the same error "16 bit Windows Subsystem" gets popped up on trying to run "command.com" in Start -> Run I tried the following troubleshooting tips. But, all in vein. 1) I tried to repair the windows xp operating system 16 bit ms dos subsystem ntvdm has encountered a system error using a CD - I had some hard disk sync problem. 2) I tried to replace the NTVDM file from the location C:\WINDOWS\system32 - It could not be replaced. 3) I downloaded a COMBOFIX for my XP machine and ran the same - It did not pop any errors 4) I installed the current version of Acrobat reader - 9.4.0 5) I tried to download Qfixapp.exe for XP inorder to fix the problem -Could not find the downloadable file online Please help me to fix the issue since I am in a very bad need of installing the JMF API for my projects. I used system error Malwarebytes Anti, ATF Cleaner, and SuperANTISpyware. It "appears" to be gone but I'm still stuck with this NTVDM message that pops up whenever I log on. It says "NTVDM has encountered a System Error c0h Choose 'Close' to terminate the application". Most of the time, when I hit close, it appears again almost immediately, occasionally more than twice. This encountered a system sometimes causes my system to freeze. And when it doesn't freeze, I still have the problem of the 'System Idle Process' in my Task Manager (process tab) unable to stop. Thus I constantly hear that "crunching" sound in my system. And this, I think, is causing my system to run a lot slower. Reminds me of the old 98 SE days. Actually, I'm finding that the "crunching" stops after about 20 minutes. All I need is to fix this error and stop that message from appearing, putting hopefully everything back to normal. I'm trying to avoid doing a fresh install of XP. Backing up stuff won't be fun with this error I got. Ideas? Thanks.
