Try IDEAL Administration 2016 during 30 days on your network for free!Active Directory Management & Reporting Made Easy with IDEAL Administration 2016 The message "System error 53 has occurred. The network path was not found" is a common native message of Microsoft Windows Operating System and is not directly related http://www.pointdev.com/en/faq/faq-ideal-administration-system-error-53-error-53-windows-error-53-the-network-path-was-not-found-id-453.html to Pointdev softwareTo resolve this error, please verify the following points : - The "RemoteRegistry" service must be up and running on the remote computer. - Check that you can ping with the CMD prompt the remote host (by its IP address or by its physical NetBIOS name), and that the host answers without significant packet loss. If the remote host does not answer when it is pingued by its hostname but answer when pingued with its IP address, please check on the remote host the DNS properties. This point should be considered because a good many functionalities of our products use the name resolution when trying to to access remot hosts. - Check on the local computer and on the remote host that there is no security hardware or software blocking or filtering the communication between the local and remote machines (firewall / antivirus / router ...). If necessary rules have to be instaured (port opening, port translation ...) in order to allow the communication between the two machines.- Please be careful with Vista computer because the network security is increased. Indeed, the native Windows Vista firewall is activated by default. Check also in the network center that the network discovery and file sharing is turned on. Ensure also that the remote registry service (execute services
SERVER -Fix Error - Cannot open backup device. Operating system error 5(Access is denied.) December 8, 2014Pinal DaveSQL, SQL Server, SQL Tips and Tricks10 commentsThis has to be the most popular error in taking database backups. There are many reasons for this http://blog.sqlauthority.com/2014/12/08/sql-server-fix-error-cannot-open-backup-device-operating-system-error-5access-is-denied/ error and there are different ways to resolve it. I recently faced this http://dba.stackexchange.com/questions/16501/in-trying-to-setup-back-up-device-net-use-command-throws-operating-system-error error and for a while I was taking backup and found a very interesting solution to the problem. The error was as mentioned below:Msg 3201, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Cannot open backup device ‘d:\Log\aw.bak'. Operating system error 5(Access is denied.). Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 BACKUP DATABASE is system error terminating abnormally. Personally, I know this error happens whenThere is no directory with LogThere is not enough space on drive d:\There is not enough permissions on d:\Log driveIn my case all of the above were not the reason for above error. The error was there because of the file was read only. There was already another backup file which existed in the folder with the name aw.bak system error 5 and it was marked as read only. Due to the same reason, my backup was failing. Once I removed the checkbox for reading only, the backup was successful. Here are few other blog posts related to this error, which I have written earlier.SQL SERVER – FIX – ERROR : Msg 3201, Level 16 Cannot open backup device . I already have the drive mapped, but per http://blogs.msdn.com/b/varund/archive/2009/06/04/backup-sql-server-database-to-a-share-drive-on-another-server.aspx, I figured I'd need to mount the drive using net use. But when I do, I get System error 53, 'The network path was not found.' EXEC XP_CMDSHELL 'net use S: \\sql-backup' I know this unc is accessible from the server because it is mounted as a network share on the sql server. Any ideas why the unc is unreachable? sql-server-2008-r2 backup share|improve this question edited Apr 16 '12 at 7:06 gbn 56.5k5103168 asked Apr 14 '12 at 0:13 rsteckly 306139 1 Why don't you just backup straight to the UNC path, use that in your backup command, in place of mapping it? –Shawn Melton Apr 14 '12 at 3:03 1 +1 Shawn. There's no reason to use xp_cmdshell for this. Honestly, with all the tools available (CLRs, SSIS, the ability to invoke the command shell via the agent, Powershell...), there's really no legitimate reason to use xp_cmdshell. xp_cmdshell was a good "pre SQL 2005" tool that, for security reasons, most experts now recommend disabling. –brian Aug 19 '12 at 18:57 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote You have to give it both the server name and a shared folder, i.e., \\Server\SharedFolder. share|improve this answer answered Jul 20 '12 at 17:13 Jon Seigel 14.2k32863 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote An idea would be to check to see if the account identity for the SQL Service has access to that network share. share|improve this answer answered Apr 21 '12 at 3:32 AJ Piscitelli 6612 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Emai
