laptop running Vista ultimate - 32 bit. No hardware or software has recently been installed with the exception of one little thing: Vista SP1 Two days ago I looked at windows update amd noticed there were a dozen or so security updates for my computer. However, after downloading and installing, I would get a message that they could not install. Checking the error message on the MS website, it indicated I needed SP1 installed. Sure enough looking back on the update history it had tried installing 3 times and failed each. Again I used MS help and it suggested to do a direct download so I did just that from the microsoft webpage. The installation took forever so I left it on overnight. When I came back my laptop would no longer start back up. I tried safemode, I tried repair, I ran all the diagnostics possible. Pretty much everything possible from the F8 menu. in normal mode it would go to a back screen with 0/15000 and the number would slowly go up as it flashed various file names, mostly .dll files Same would happen in safemode but they would scroll up the screen. Eventually they would always hang up on some file (it changed each time). After another 3 or 4 tried or this, it stopped starting all together and instead I was greeted with a STOP: 0x0000C1F5 (0x00000000, 0x00000000,.....) blue screen. The problem I have is, I do't have a vista disk because the laptop is supposed to have a recovery partition. I know MS has a hotfix out there for this specific problem, but how do I load it without a working operating system?! I have tried system rescue disk as many people have suggested online, but this hangs up too with a Kernal Panic event. Is there anyway to restore my system and/or get my data off it? Thanks in advance RELEVANCY SCORE 200 Preferred Solution: Vista SP1 caused STOP: 0x0000C1F5 I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success. I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc. You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
