The remote desktop on his Windows XP (Related Post : If you have MSLicensing Problem on Windows Vista, then check this post.) was running fine, but now he was getting http://www.techbuzz.in/how-to-fix-the-remote-computer-disconnected-the-session-because-of-an-error-in-the-licensing-protocol.php this error: "The remote computer disconnected the session because of an error in the licensing protocol. Please try connecting to the remote computer again or contact your server administrator." When I looked up in the knowledge base, this is what Microsoft had to say : "Cause: The licensing protocol handles the communication of licensing information between your computer and the remote computer. If there is an error in the licensing protocol, your computer cannot be connected to the remote computer. Solution: Try connecting to the remote computer again. If you continue to receive this error message, contact the server administrator" Well here's the solution to fix this problem: This actually is a registry fix. You'll be prompted to delete a few keys and subkeys and hence it's better if you take a back up of your registry manually, so that you can restore it if something goes wrong during the process. If you do not know how to take back up of your registry manually follow this tutorial : Tutorial to to back up the registry in Windows Vista or in Windows XP. Once you have taken the back up, 1> Click on Start Menu -> Go to Run Command box -> Type regedit -> This opens the registry Editor. 2> Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSLicensing 3> Delete all the keys under MSLicensing : both HardwareID and Store keys and their subkeys. Join Now Hi All Run into this issue that I personally have not come across before and https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/39556-windows-2000-ts-and-vista-client-error-connecting am wondering if anyone can advise. I have a user who needs to work from home. All other users to date have connected no problem to the RAS server and successfully carried out their tasks. This particular user is receiving the following error: "The remote computer disconnected the session because of an error in the licensing protocol." (see my attached file for the remote full error screenshot) Now I've done some research and there is a lot of talk about changing some registry keys. I am reluctant to do this for one user when all other users are working fine. Has anyone got any recommendations or suggestions? Tech Specs: Server: Windows 2000 Terminal with SP4 Client: Windows Vista (Home edition, I think) Thanks in advance... I have a Vista Home Premium machine that works. But that be a difference betweek Home Basic and Premium. 0 Thai Pepper OP J - 159 Jun 9, 2009 at 8:23 UTC Yeah, I can't stand all the different copies of Windows. I think it was fine with XP where you had two, but it's starting to get a little ridiculous now. It doesn't seem that it will be any different with Windows 7 either. :( 0 Thai Pepper OP J - 159 Jun 9, 2009 at 8:25 UTC http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/features/remote-desktop-connection.aspx
