I assume additional transaction log backups must be restored. I hope it helps. J.There are 10 type of people. Those who understand binary and those who do not. Take a full backup in principal database and copy it to mirror server 2. Restore the principal database using With NORECOVERY option 3. Take a single transaction log backup in principal servers database and copy it to mirror server 4. Restore that single transaction log backup using With NORECOVERY option 5. it shouldn't have happened, but the error return that I received from SQL Server did not indicate the problem very clearly at all. I spent two days reading and researching... only to find a very obvious problem, that never should have happened. A little background.... A customer of mine had a v2008 R2 SQL Server where 5 databases were mirrored, using Database Mirroring. The server was old and over-used, so they bought a new server, dedicated for the mirror, high performance, no witness. To implement, https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/0884f396-cf5c-49cc-9ec8-501a7731e1aa/can-any-body-help-me-with-this-microsoft-sql-server-error-1412-?forum=sqldatabasemirroring I needed tobreak the current mirroring session for each of the 5 databases, and build it back up on the new server. I have listed my steps here briefly, and then provided further detail for each following the list. Turn off mirroring on PRINCIPAL Drop Endpoint on Mirror Drop Database on Mirror (Won't do this until after the new mirrored instance http://www.sqlfingers.com/2015/02/sql-server-database-mirroring-error-msg.html is defined) Create FULL backups of databases and logs, copy to MIRROR server On MIRROR restore database xxx WITH NORECOVERY On MIRROR restore database log xxx WITH NORECOVERY Re-use endpoint on PRINCIPAL (Not dropping/recreating it, just re-using the same endpoint) Create new endpoint on MIRROR (mimicking the PRINCIPAL endpoint) On MIRROR, create partnership to PRINCIPAL On PRINCIPAL, create partnership to MIRROR On PRINCIPAL, set partner safety off (Thus, High Performance mode) -- #1. Turn off mirroring on PRINCIPAL ALTER DATABASE xxx SET PARTNER OFF; -- #2. Drop Endpoint on MIRROR DROP ENDPOINT endpointname; -- #3. DropDatabase on Mirror (It's a placeholder. Do not do this until new mirror is good.) DROP DATABASE xxx -- #4. Create FULL backups of databases and logs (I backed up to the Mirror Server via UNC) -- full db backup BACKUP DATABASE xxx TO DISK = '\\MirrorServer\E$\TEMP\xxx.bak' WITH FORMAT GO -- full log backup BACKUP LOG xxx TO DISK = '\\MirrorServer\E$\TEMP\xxx_Log.bak' WITH FORMAT GO -- #5. On MIRROR rest
is encompassed in the local copy of the database log. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 1412) An error occurred while starting mirroring. Alter failed for Database 'XXXXX'. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo) The remote copy of database "XXXXX" has not been rolled forward http://sqldbatask.blogspot.com/2013/01/sql2008r2-error-remote-copy-of-database_26.html to a point in time that is encompassed in the local copy of the database log. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 1412) Solution: Log backup is not close enough to the mirror server database log. So restore is http://www.c-sharpcorner.com/uploadfile/nipuntomar/sql-server-database-mirroring-part-3/ getting failing in the database mirroring session initiation. Take latest principal database full and log backup with NO RECOVERY mode and copy the backups to the mirror server to restore it by the below order. Restore the the remote full backup with no recovery mode. Then Restore the log backup with no recovery mode. Then start your database mirroring session. If you are trying to restore the log backup before full backup, you will get the below error. So the order of backup in the restore is very important. Full backup first and then Log backup to restore. Thank youReplyDeleteAnonymousJuly 10, 2015 at 11:07 AMThis did not work for me. I've restored from Full backup first and then restored from t-log the results being the error. I have created a principle backup several times and restored to the mirror with the same error each time.ReplyDeleteAdd commentLoad more...
