Update error - Connection failed, check your settings? by Jona on March 28th, 2011. We are currently having some problems with the updates for an older version of Ad-Aware. If you cannot update and are using Ad-Aware Anniversary Edition you should uninstall, download the latest version (9.0.2 or later) and reinstall Ad-Aware. You can un-install the program, by going to:Start -> Programs -> Lavasoft -> Ad-Aware -> and click on Uninstall Ad-AwareReboot your computer.Then download the software again, re-install it, and register it again.You can download Ad-Aware from here. I tried web update today, got the message, Connection error, check your settings (Errorcode: -1) Verified that the proxy settings are correct. Tried it again later, same result. Downloaded the latest Definitions file, Imported it. Rebooted the computer. Ad-Aware Main window still shows old update date. How can I update the definitions, and make Ad-Aware see them? Check your settings (errorcode-1). I looked on the Lava soft web site and followed instructions below and it still hasn’t ad aware fixed the problem, I have uninstalled it and then done a fresh re-install and it still won’t let me up-date, so can someone please help me sort this problem out. I am running Vista....Thanks If you're experiencing a 'connection error' when clicking web-update please try updating from the start menu or use one of the workarounds below. *Go to, C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware and right click on AAWService.exe, select properties in popup menu and in ad aware connection the Compatibility tab. Change the Compatibility mode to "Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP" , click ‘apply’ then ‘ok’. Do the same for Ad-AwareAdmin.exe and then retry the web-update. *Go to Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services and locate "Lavasoft Ad-Aware Service". Stop the Service (if started) and then right click/properties. Under Logon, check "Allow service to interact with desktop", click OK and restart the service and then retry the web-update. Also:Do you have a firewall installed, if so, make sure Ad-Aware is allowed to connect to the internet.Do you connect to the internet via proxy settings, if so ensure these are set within Ad-Aware.Did you have previous versions of Ad-Aware installed, and if so, could they connect?If none of these work, I'd revert back to version 8.1 until they work out more bugs.
