We know that some of you are encountering issues with the definition file update. If this is the case please follow the steps below: 1) Click "Start" and search for the folder corresponding to the version of Ad-Aware program installed: C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware Antivirus\Antimalware Engine\2.6.0.0\Plugins (for versions 11.1.5152.0, 11.0.4530.0), C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware Antivirus\Antimalware Engine\3.0.0.56\definitions or C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware Antivirus\Antimalware Engine\3.0.98.0\definitions (for later versions). 2) Once you have found the Plugins (for versions 11.1.5152.0, 11.0.4530.0) or definitions folder (for later versions), please highlight it and hit "Delete". Some files will not be able to be deleted, a window will pop-up telling you that you cannot remove this file, check the check-box and click the "Skip" button. 3) Please re-start your computer and then open Ad-Aware, the definition files will update accordingly. The problem produces the Ad-Aware SE warning: "Error retrieving updates" when performing a webupdate. It interrupts at 5% download completion .( If your update stalls at another ad aware update point than at 5 %, your problem stems from another issue.See http://www.lavasofts...?showtopic=1336 )Ad-Aware SE PersonalAt first, uninstall any previous version of Ad-Aware.When uninstalled, use the link below to access the NEW Ad-Aware SE installation file.http://download.lava...wsepersonal.exeDownload and begin the installation process. (you may need to disable your Firewall to allow for downloads).When the installation is complete, open Ad-Aware and "check for updates", update to the latest definitions file. However, trying to run the installer gives the error message "Couldn't open MSI transaction". Attempting to completely uninstall Ad-Ware gives the error message "Ad-Aware has encountered an error during installation. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Please close the program and try installing it again" Back to top #2 CeciliaB CeciliaB Volunteer Moderator 9398 posts Posted 31 August 2014 - 11:43 PM Hi Yammerhant,That error message usually occurs when another installation using Microsoft Installer (MSI) or Windows Update is running. Please, check that there are no pending installations in Windows Update and that you aren't doing any other installations. It might be necessary to disable automatic installations in Windows Update and restart the computer to stop Windows Update.If you still get the same error message, please, collect logs and other information by following the instructions in http://www.lavasofts...roubleshooting/ to let Lavasoft investigate your issues.
