Connection error when updating Ad-Aware Started by Cyclonus , Mar 03 2010 03:45 PM This topic is locked 3 replies to this topic #1 Cyclonus Cyclonus Newbie Members 2 posts Posted 03 March 2010 - 03:45 PM Hello everyone. Sorry if this seems like a newbie question, but I am brand new to the Ad-Aware program and these forums.I am running Windows Vista Home Premium with service pack 1.I was successful in installing Ad-Aware version 8.2.0, but the Web Update feature within the program always gives me an error message "connection error, check your settings. (errorcode: -1)"All of the update settings under the advanced mode seem to be set up correctly.I also tried all three workarounds in the main link for this problem http://www.lavasofts...showtopic=25456From workaround 2 I set both the .exe files into compatibility mode for windows xp service pack 2, that didn't work. Then I tried setting them both to compatibility mode for windows 98, that didn't work either. From workaround 3 I have set both "Terminal Services" and "Terminal Services Configuration" so that their status is "started" and their startup type is "automatic."I feel like I have run out of options. Is there anything else I can do? If not, what is the best way to ever be able to update this program?Any help is greatly appreciated,Jason Back to top #2 casey_boy casey_boy Volunteer Helper/Moderator Volunteer Security Advisor 3565 posts Posted 03 March 2010 - 04:08 PM Hi,Just a few quick questions:Do you have a firewall installed? I'm not really sure what a proxy server is (sorry!). I have never had to enter any of that kind of information before to use these types of programs. The download was going great until i got an error "Connection error-check settings Error code: -1".Is this a virus? Could this also have been the problem that was causing Avira to not be able to update? Any help will be appreciated. Post a reply Discussion is locked Flag Permalink You are posting a reply to: Err
