AVCHD utilizes MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 (AVC) video compression codec. From the incomparable Dave LaRonde: Dave's Stock Answer #1: If the footage you imported into AE is any kind of the following -- footage in an HDV acquisition codec, MPEG1, MPEG2, mp4, m2t, H.261 or H.264 -- you need to convert it to a different codec. These kinds of footage use temporal, or interframe compression. They have keyframes at regular intervals, containing complete frame information. However, the frames in between do NOT have complete information. Interframe codecs toss out duplicated information. In order to maintain peak rendering efficiency, AE needs complete information for each and every frame. But because these kinds of footage contain only partial information, AE freaks out, resulting in a wide variety of problems. You need to use your favorite encoder (Adobe Media Encoder is a good one) or your editing software to export/render/encode your video as a different kind of file format such as a Quicktime mo

By MotionRevolver after effects, FAQ, How To, Tutorials 33 Comments Tweet In this quick FAQ tutorial, we cover how to fix the "colorbars" problem by locating and relinking the missing footage inside of After Effects. Finding and relinking your footage is simple! 1. Inside of the Project Window of After Effects, locate the file(s) that is missing and highlight it. 2. Hit Command+H (or right-click and choose "Replace Footage"). 3. In the dialog box, navigate to the location of the missing footage. If you don't know the location, use the Finder to search for the file name that is missing. 4. Once you've found the file, click Open, and that's it! Hopefully if all of your missing footage is in the same location (which they should be if you're following good organization practices!) all of your missing footage will update and relink inside After Effects. Alexander Curtis said: February 23, 2013 at 12:58 am Great explanation of something that everyone needs to know, yet never really gets officially taught. I had this problem when after finishing an after effects on one computer and then transferring files over to another computer through team viewer. Eventually found that teamviewer adds weird things to the names that was causing all the problems with AE finding the linked files, but this video helped me since I have never officially had to relink files before. I was expecting there to be a "links" palette like in InDesign, so I was glad to stumble on this. If any AE dev stumbles across this comment however, let me just say that it would be really nice to see a links panel in future versions of AE. It makes finding and replacing files and fonts really easy across your entire project in one little window. Reply Andre said: April 1, 2014 at 11:25 am Hey! Thanks, it really works!
