This document can help you to resolve problems related to OpenGL that occur while you use After Effects. OpenGL problems can manifest in many different ways, including (but not limited to) the following: Adobe After Effects crashes or closes without an error while it starts. A crash or freeze when you scrub the timeline or preview or render a composition. A crash when you change the settings of an effect while OpenGL previews are enabled. A crash or freeze when you enable or disable OpenGL previews. The composition window takes a long time to redraw. Artifacts or blocks of "garbage" pixels are drawn in the composition window. The composition window is drawn differently between when OpenGL previews are on and off. What do I do to avoid this error and continue working in my project? I thought that the file was corrupted, so I created a new project and got the same error. Any suggestions?! 6126Views Tags: none (add) This content has https://forums.adobe.com/thread/395868 been marked as final. Show 24 replies 1. Re: After Effects error: AE_Open GL Mylenium Jul 1, 2008 12:53 AM (in response to (Moira_Ballard)) Turn off OpenGL in the preferences. Clearly your graphics card is not cut out for using it with AE's acceleration features. You may also remove the AE_OpenGL.AEX file from your plugin directory under C:\Program Files\Adobe\After Effects CS3\Support Files\Plug-ins\Extensions Mylenium Like Show 0 Likes(0) Actions 2. Re: After Effects error: AE_Open GL (R._Jason_Clark) Aug 18, 2008 9:25 AM (in response to (Moira_Ballard)) Thats not always true Mylenium, and no offense, you should be a little more tasteful in your assumptions, "Clearly your graphics card is not cut out for using it with AE's acceleration features." If you do have a adequate Card, like my Quadro fx 3500, in which I was receiving the same errors, you need to go into Preferences Previews and Click on the OpenGL info button. Once there bump up the Texture Memory, mine was set at 200 mb, When dealing in HD or larger composition sizes in my case 4k, I found that I needed to bump that memory up to 2000 mb, check you total ram, I'm sure that number is referring to the Ram in which I am running 3.
start reinstalling and trashing things, make sure you've tried to locate what part of your AE project is causing the problems. Start by isolating the problem: What http://generalspecialist.com/troubleshooting-after-effects-all-versions/ is causing this problem, and when does the problem occur? Every time you https://www.reddit.com/r/AfterEffects/comments/1v7sts/opengl_errors_help/ import something, every time you render to a specific codec, everytime you apply a certain effect? Can you reproduce the problem by doing something, or is it random? What did you do just before the problem occured? Can that operation have caused the problem? Can you do the same thing after effects in another way without seeing the error? Does your rendering/preview fail at the same frame on both previews and renders? Isolate that layer with the solo switch and turn off every effect and then turn them on one-by-one. Does the error occur in all projects or just one? If in just one, what is special about it? Does the error occur on after effects cc other machines with the same version of AE/plugins/drivers? If so, what is unique about this machine? Does it happen without third-party plugins? Are the third-party plugins compatible with CS3? Do you have a third-party video card such as AJA or Decklink? Have you updated those drivers? Have you changed anything about the system lately? Installed a new codec, driver, software or hardware? Try to revert your changes and see if the problem disappears. Do a search with specific keywords from any error messages you get. Enclose terms that have more than one word with quotation marks. Here's a good example:"image buffer" "after effects" Workarounds to common problems: If you hold down the Shift key while opening an old project you will force AE to close all comp viewers, so if one of the comps are causing problems you will be able to identify which comp it is. You can also try to import the project instead of opening it. A third solution is to move all source files into a new folder so that AE can't find them, and then locate each source file separately by
