\\SERVER1AOFO: Initialization failure on: "Shadow?Copy?Components". Advanced Open File Option used: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS). VSS Snapshot error. Unexpected provider error. Cause 1 . AOFO option under Job Properties is not selected.2 . The Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider Service manages software based volume shadow copies taken by the Volume Shadow Copy service. If this service is stopped, software-based volume shadow copies cannot be managed. If this service is disabled, any service that explicitly depends on it will fail to start. 3. Error would be reported in job log if there are more than one VSS providers installed on the Source server. Solution The error occurs while running a backup job with selections made for a local or remote Windows 2003 machine from under the Shadow Copy Components irrespective of whether Advanced Open File Option is installed on the Backup Exec server or not. Solution 1 : Make sure that 'Advanced Option File Option ' is selected under Job properties >>> Advanced Open File Option . During the installation of the Remote Agent, if AOFO option is chosen then it installs the VSP.SYS (Veritas Snapshot Provider driver). During the snapshot process VSP.SYS creates the snapshots that are managed on the local volume of the server that is getting backed up. Low disk space or inconsistent snapshots on the local volume of the server getting backed up can result in the failure of the job with error message stated above. Solution Use the Advanced Open File Option Wizard to increase the maximum cache file size or change the
