Go to dells support site and download the diagnostics tool and run it against the tape drive to see if there are errors. I have Veritas Backup Exec software for it. I loaded the software and was having some trouble getting it to work. I was actually able to get 1 single test backup to work, but backup exec crc since then I haven't gotten diddly to work. I have since updated everything I can get my hands on. Tape drivers, Backup Exec drivers, Backup Exec software (its 9.1 + relevant patches now), Tape Drive Firmware, etc. I get a variety of messages depending on what I try, but most seem to indicate CRC errors in one form or another. The various errors I get are: When I try to erase media, I get: "Data error (cyclic redundancy check)" When to label media, I get: "The Storage device reported a CRC error on a request to read/write data to/from media." At first, when I tried a backup, it ran for a while, backed up a bunch of files, then came back with: "Storage device "Dell 1" reported an error on a request to write data to media. Erorr reported: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)." When trying a backup of just some test files, it runs a couple minutes then kicks the tape out and I get an Alert asking me to: "Please insert overwritable media into the drive." Doesn't do any good to try a new tape at
