Solved Backup Exec 12.5 services not starting Posted on 2010-10-21 Storage Software Windows Server 2003 3 Verified Solutions 8 Comments 2,557 Views Last Modified: 2012-05-11 I have a Backup Exec 12.5 installed on a Win Server 2003 R2 machine, backup exec and it has worked great for many moons- until this past Patch Tuesday. Since then, upon rebooting the server, several of the backup exec services haven't wanted to launch. The pictures below show which services are running. All services gave a 1068 error ("Could not start the Backup Exec Server service on Local Computer. Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start.") except for the Backup Exec Device and Media service, backup exec 12.5 which had the following screen error: When actually opening Backup Exec (this is where I first saw the problem), I get the following stating the services aren't running and asking me to verify my cerdentials: I tried both myself and the administrator account, with no luck. When you hit cancel, it says "You have not connected to a media server. Would you like to exit the application?" Select no, it takes you back. Select yes, it closes BE. As such, I can't try to make any changes from within BE. I've tried restarting the server, no luck. I've tried looking around for similar issues, but they all seem to address upgrading from BE 8.x to 10.x, etc. Like I said up top, everything worked great until the latest round of Windows patches were installed and I rebooted.
