Error Message When checking the install log, the MSI 1603 error is reported After running a VOICEWARMUP debug, the report begins with the following error: Error 1328.Error applying patch to file D:\Config.Msi\PT3FAB.tmp. It has probably been updated by other means, and can no longer be modified by this patch. For more information contact your patch vendor. Cause The are two possible causes in this case. The first was that there were Backup Exec registry keys in place from the previous installation that had to be removed. The second issue relates to the PatchCache folder not properly cleaning up GUID entries after the previous version of Backup Exec Media Server or Remote Agent were uninstalled. This is a known Microsoft issue. Solution The first step is to make sure that the previous media server or remote agent is fully uninstalled. Below are the associated Tech Notes that will show how to properly remove the installation files, registry keys and any other applicable data: Manual uninstallation of Backup Exec: www.symantec.com/docs/TECH50720 Manual uninstallation of the Remote Agent: www.symante

Backup Exec 2010 R2 - Remote Agent Install Error Code 1603 [fa icon="long-arrow-left"] Back to all posts [fa icon="pencil'] Posted by Lewan Solutions [fa icon="calendar"] September 28, 2010 Tweet While onsite trying to remotely push a Backup Exec 2010 R2 remote agent, we were getting a lot of the "error code 1603" messages, which stated: "Error connecting to the remote server. Ensure the server is available, has WMI enabled, and is not blocked by a firewall. 1603." It seems like this is the likely problem, mentioned in the below Symantec technote: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH128062 Our workaround was to just install the client manually on each server that wouldn't connect, instead of going through all the steps mentioned in the above technote.
