Have a quick question and request in the mean time. Are you trying to perform this instalation of backup exec Remotely? If so you would please try to locally install B.E. 0 Tabasco OP Best Answer Kev840 May 9, 2013 at 7:16 UTC I broke down and contacted Symantec support. After about an hour on the phone I'm told it is a problem installing SQL 5, so it's Microsoft's problem. After searching online for the error message I found this neat little script called WMIFix.cmd. I ran it and viola! I'm back in business. SQL installed and Backup exec 2012 is almost finished installing. YAY! I can back up my files tonight! The exact SQL error was: SQL server setup failed to compile the manage object format (MOF) file c:\program files\Microsoft SQL server\90\shared\sqlmgmproviderxpxp2up.mof. To proceed, see "Troubleshooting an installation of SQL Server 2005" or "Ho to: view SQL Server 2005 setup log files" in SQL Server 2005 setup help documentation. I have attached the file for anyone else who may have this problem.
