Cause The failure occurs because Backup Exec is experiencing one of the following conditions: The drive the Catalogs folder is hosted on does not have enough free space to store the Backup Exec temporary catalog files.The Catalog path in Backup Exec is pointing to an invalid location. The current location of the Backup Exec catalog files can be viewed by going to the Tools | Options | Catalog menu in Backup Exec.The Backup Exec Service Account (BESA) does not have adequate permissions to write to the Catalogs folder. This commonly occurs when a security change affected a top level parent folder and replicated down to the Catalogs folder.Anti-virus software was running at the time of the backup Any of these issues result in a condition which prevents the BE Service Account from writing the temporary catalog files. Solution To resolve the issue perform one of the following: Move the Backup Exec catalog files to a drive that has more free space. Verify the catalog location exists in the Windows directory. When trying to catalog the next media from the group there will be an alert "An error was encountered writing https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.000083642 to the on-disk catalogs." and no new restore information will be seen. Error Message From the Catalog job:e0000900 - The requested media is not listed in the media index and could not be mounted. To add the media's catalog information to the disk-based catalogs, run an inventory operation on the media and resubmit the Catalog operation. For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-2304 From an Alert that should pop up after submitting a catalog job:"An error was encountered writing to the on-disk catalogs." Solution Workaround: 1. Catalog the first media in the broken set and restore the data. 2. Delete the first cataloged media from the Backup Exec console by associating it to the retired media set, then deleting, which will remove it from UI and the related catalog files from the catalog folder.3. Then catalog the next available piece of media from the broken set. The job will still fail withthe "The requested media is not listed in the media index and could not bemounted." however the updated restore selections will be available to restore the data. 4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 for the remaining media from the broken set. Note: Some success was found cataloging multiple contiguous media from
