I have searched the knowledge base but there is nothing for the error message " [serverbackupjobname] -- The job failed with the following error: An unknown error occurred within the NDMP subsystem." That is all it says, this is not a VM or Hyper-V server nor a Netware or Red Hat server. And what is NDMP subsystem?? Thanks Cathy Solved! Go to Solution. This server use to be a BE 2011 backup server. I had not removed the backup exec from it. Once I did that and reinstalled the agent, I did not get this error any longer.

Error Message An Unknown Error occurred within the NDMP subsystem Solution One of the reason for this could be that IPv6 is enabled on the remote machine. https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.000035022 To resolve the above error, disable the IPv6 as explained below. On Linux/Suse: Linux has Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) enabled by default, almost all distributions enable it. 1. To disable it on Linux please open modprobe.conf file (Red Hat) and add following lines: # vi /etc/modprobe.conf
alias net-pf-10 off
alias ipv6 off
2. Save the file. 3. Restart the RALUS process. 4. Try to select the Linux machine from Backup Exec. In case if the Alias entry is not available 1. Open terminal and run the following commands echo "alias net-pf-10 off" >> /etc/modprobe.conf
echo "alias ipv6 off" >> /etc/modprobe.conf
2. Restart the server 3. IPV6 should be disabled now. On Mac: 1. Go to System preferences and select "Network" 2. Select "configure IPv6" and disable IPv6. 3. Restart the MAC Agent. 4. Try to select the MAC server from Backup Exec. Terms of use for this information are found in Legal Notices.

It works!! :) So to fix this I had to update to sp4, apply all hotfixes, uninstall and reinstall the remote agent and re-create the backup. Thanks again for your help :) discussion comment 19 Mar 2014 MorkSherwood commented on: 0xe000feba - An unknown error occurred within the NDMP subsystem. Currently re-creating the backup again since re-installing the agent. I'll see what happens. discussion backup exec an comment 19 Mar 2014 MorkSherwood commented on: 0xe000feba - An unknown error occurred within the NDMP subsystem. Hi, I've set up a new job from the same server to backup a random folder on the Exchange server (downloads folder on C) and to the same BackupToDisk Folder and it's successful. So the issue must lie with my Exchange backup job I'm guessing. discussion comment 19 Mar 2014 MorkSherwood commented on: 0xe000feba - An unknown error occurred within the NDMP subsystem. Hi, Yes, if I go onto the Exchange Server and open the remote agent I can see there are 3 enties all pointing to the media server.
