The media can be moved to different media sets. if an attempt is made to erase the media, it fails. If the media is moved to the scratch media set and data is attempted to be written to it, the job fails. Error Message Job Completion Status Job started : Friday, October 07, 2011 10:30:30 AM Job ended : Friday, October 07, 2011 10:30:40 AM Final error: 0x13 - The media is write protected. Final error category: Other Errors Completed status: Failed Cause The Quantum DLT stand alone tape drive has the capability to place write protection on tape media independent of Backup Exec. This write protection is stored on the tape and cannot be circumvented by importing to a new media server. Solution In order to unlock the write protection on the tape media, The customer will need to contact Quantum and download the write protection tool " DLT SAGE". Install this tool on the current media server and remove the write protection from the media. A security key os required to complete this task. This key should be known to the customer. If not, please have the customer contact Quantum support for assistance. Applies To 1. The tape media may have been written to by a different media server. 2. The backup job that wrote data to the tape media did not have Encryption enabled. 3. The tape media does not show

One of the servers is running backupexec 9.1 on windows server 2003. The backups however always fail due to the media being write protected and cannot be overwritten even though the media is physically set to allow overwrites. Backups were working fine until recently all backup jobs began failing with errors that the media was write-protected. When I try to format or erase any tape in arcserve, there are no tapes to select in the popup dialog box.
