Already Running Posted by Tanner Williamson in All Posts, How 2.0 | 1 comment Symptoms: Remote Installation or Local of the Backup Exec agent fails. Install -- The job failed with the following error: Fatal error during installation. OR Unable to run Setup.exe. Another instance is already running. WARNING: Installation has been canceled. Applies to: Backup Exec 2008, 2010, 2012. The Cause: I found the solution to the problem. The root cause is that the installer is spawning a process twice, and both processes are conflicting with each other. To fix it, you will need to manually intervene, and kill one of the https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.000039696 processes. Unfortunately, you will need to actually log in remotely or physically to your server you want to install the agent on manually as an account with administrative privileges. The Solution: Log on to your target computer that is having the problem with the agent installation; log on with an account that has administrator privileges. Launch Task Manager ( Start > Run > taskmgr.exe ) Ensure you have the http://www.tannerwilliamson.com/symantec-backup-exec-agent-installation-fails-with-error-setup-already-running/1838/ .ISO Disc Image extracted to a network reachable folder, and while logged on to your target computer, browse to your network reachable folder holding the extracted contents. Of your disc. If you need to extract the ISO, download 7-zip and after installing it, right click over the ISO to extract its contents to a folder. Launch the Browser.exe on the root of the Backup Exec extracted folder. Choose the menu option Installation, and then expand Backup Exec Agent for Windows. Press Install. Immediately switch over to task manager. Switch to the Processes tab, and sort by image Name from A-Z. Ensure [x] Show processes from all users is selected. Watch at the top for a process named "_Setup.exe". One instance of this process is fine. But, if a second one shows up, select it and end the process. If two are allowed to run, it will conflict with itself, and give you the installation error message. Once you've watched for and killed the duplicate process, you should have no trouble letting the remaining process progress through the installation. I hope this has been helpful. Let me know if you have any useful tips or other thoughts about this. gslubega I run Testking software when I cli
