Cannot backup directory \Program Files\Symantec\SMSMSE\\6.0\Server\bm_ruleset.2.spamsig_rules.1224550858 and its subdirectories. Error Message "Directory not found. Cannot backup directory \Program Files\Symantec\SMSMSE\5.0\Server\bm_ruleset.2.spamsig_rules.1167885572 and its subdirectories" Cause This error occurs during a backup of the installation folder for Symantec's Mail Security application. Symantec Mail Security for Exchange creates temporary sub folders in order to update its spam filters and rules and then deletes these folders when it is finished updating. This can occur while a backup job is running and therefore the error is generated Solution To resolve the issue exclude these folders from the backup job using wildcards. For the error message above the exclusion would look like this:\\*\*\**bm_ruleset*There are two methods of creating exclusions:1) Create a global exclusion which will exclude the folders from every newly created job. Re-Create the backup job once a global exclusion is set.2) Create the exclusion as part of the selection list for a specific job.See the related documents section for instructions. For setting up exclusions using method 2 edit the backup job selection list instead of the Exclude list. Terms of use for this information are found in Legal Notices.

I can backup the Oracle database and the system state via Backup Exec just fine. The job is failing when it attempts to process the individual volumes. I've tried creating a separate backup job and selected a subset of individual files on the boot partition but the job still fails. The job log simply states: Resource Name: \\ServerName\C: Error: e000fe09 - The directory is invalid. I've opened a support ticket with Symantec on the issue, but it's been languishing for about 2 weeks. I'm hoping someone from the forums has come across this issue and can recommend a viable solution.
