We deinstalled the old Backup Exec 8.5 version and installed Backup Exec 2010. Everything worked just fine. We then renamed the server (hostname) - still everything fine - jobs ran. We ran LiveUpdate https://vox.veritas.com/t5/Backup-Exec/Backup-Exec-servcies-not-starting/td-p/540002 - funnily, BE 8.5 & 2010 were displayed. We selected just the 2010 and installed all 10 updates. After rebooting the server, the BE services no longer started. We deinstalled and reinstalled BE 2010. Everything fine - but as soon as we run a LiveUpdate and install the updates, BE services no longer start. Any ideas what the problem could be? Solved! Go to Solution. Otherwise, if you have domain admin rights on your account, use BEutility.exe to change the BESA to use your account as a test and see if it starts up. The other thing to check is to ensure that any AV running on that server isn't perhaps blocking the BE services,a nd if so, put in exclusions for them. Thanks! When I try to go into the app I get the following error message: "The BackUp Exec Server system service is not responding. The service error 1068 the is either not running or not installed". I ahve tried starting the service and it just sits on STARTING and does nothing else. Dave, if you've played around CraigV Moderator Partner Trusted Advisor Accredited 06-29-2012 04:14 AM Options Mark as New Bookmark Subscribe Subscribe to RSS Feed Highlight Print Email to a Friend Report Inappropriate Content Dave, if you've played around with BE 2012, then go for it. And then it's best to just install it clean. If not, I'd then recommend reinstalling BE 12.5 and upgrading to BE 2010 R3 with SP2. BE 2012 R2 is in beta phase and will be released sometime in the future, and it might be best to hold on for that. Either way, installing BE 12.5 and upgrading to BE 2010 R3 must see you get copies of your Data/Catalogs folders first before doing the upgrade. You can read some TNs about BE 2012 below, and be sure to check out the Videos section on Connect too... http://www.symantec
Symantec Backup Exec Join the Community! Creating your account only takes a few minutes. Join Now I am currently running Backup Exec 2010 R3 on Windows server 2003. Attempting to start the Backup Exec Job Engine service results with error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start. I believe this service fails as it is dependent upon the Remote Agent for Windows service. I thought the remote agent agent only needs to be installed on remote machines that require backing up, not sure this service needs to be installed on this machine?. Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated. Have you restarted the server? After fixing this hardware issue, backups would no longer run (all ip addresses of remote machines changed) and I am no longer able to browse remote resources. In an attempt to get the backups running again I have restarted the server. I was told this machine did not require Remote Agent and I removed it. Attempting to restart the Remote Agent service on results in "The system cannot find the file specified." The option to install Remote Agent (from disk) is greyed out and my only option is to create a Transform. 0 Pimiento OP aw3 Jun 2, 2015 at 3:54 UTC Restarting all services results in: Starting Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Systems on SERVER.
