Not too long ago, jobs started failing. After backing up about 150 Gb of data, the backup job's status changes from running to queued. I have to cancel the job from there. The error messages always read:Backup - \\servername\D: The media operation was terminated by the user.Error reading file data.Error reading file data.Media mount failed.User canceled a Physical Volume Library operation. From this I would assume there is a problem with the data at that location, but the server and file name never stay the same. The error is not consistant. The tapes should not be filling up because they will hold up to 200 Gb of compressed data. I have tried changing the data and location that it backs up, and it makes no difference. I still get this error everyday on a variety of different tapes.Any help would be appreciated. backup exec 9.1 error job cancelled or timed out: SBS First strorage group error reading file data » Veritas backup exec 9.1 error job cancelled or timed out: SBS First strorage group error reading file data on Jun 20, 2010 in Exchange server | 1 comment I came across this problem where good old Veritas backup exec 9.1 installed on SBS 2003 server started giving me error. Error is the backup is stuck every night when trying to backup the First storage group. Since, the backup is time limited is forcibly stops the job saying job timed out. My first troubleshooting was simply restart the server so that any locked service or file is freed up again and install any veritas 9.1 patches that might be available, which I would say worked for me. But, I have read a post on the internet suggesting defrag the exchange DB with Eseutil.exe and then restart the server. Another suggestion was stop the exchange service during backup, which to my knowledge is not required because the exchange agent will take care of the backup and if service is stopped agent won't be able to talk to the store and in fact backup will fail. On the same second point we are backing up database to flush the logs not backing up average file sitting on the hard disk. Other thing is look out and make sure the tape has enough space left to accommodate exchange 2003 store. If not and you can't get higher capacity tapes use the "backup-to-disk" in Veritas 9.1 with all the default settings for exchange 2003 backup. Anyway, I would suggest restart the server if you come across the above error. Defrag exchange database, I don't know if you feel you want the storage to contiguous, eliminate unused storage and compact the database to reduce the database size. Did I mentioned defrag creates another copy of DB and you have to unmount the database first. Any comments and suggestions, let them roll. 1 Comment I like the valuable information you supply in your articles. I'll bookmark your blog and test once more right here frequently.
