I downloaded the anaconda python package and am trying to install it, bash Anaconda-2.1.0-Linux-x86_64.sh at some point the terminal says: Anaconda will now be installed into this location: /home/*username*/anaconda - Press ENTER to confirm the mkdir cannot create directory permission denied root location - Press CTRL-C to abort the installation - Or specify an different location below So I wanted to install in /opt (which I heard was an appropriate directory), but the terminal then says: mkdir: cannot create directory ‘/opt/anaconda’:Permission denied ERROR: Could not create directory: /opt/anaconda I don't see how I can use sudo here as the installer runs then mkdir. I tried making the directory myself first, bit then it gives the fact that the dir exists as an error. What can I do? software-installation anaconda share|improve this question edited Oct 20 '14 at 7:53 Braiam 16.9k955100 asked Oct 19 '14 at 21:41 Feyre 10814 Try to prefix your command with sudo . –Cyrus Oct 20 '14 at 7:01 @Cyrus I can't, I have to fill in the directory I want to use, so with sudo this'd be >sudo /opt/anaconda At this point the terminal complains that directories can't have spaces in them, i.e. it sees Sudo as part of the directory I'm trying to install Anaconda in. –Feyre Oct 20 '14 at 7:54 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote accepted So I wanted to install i

I have https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=129519 some folders setup which are:/home/media/Public/nzb /home/media/Public/usenet /home/media/Public/completedThe directories are under my lvm and it would appear that this is causing me some grief. If I try and set these directories in sabnzbd I get the following error (doesn't matter which folder I try and set):Incorrect parameterCannot create download_dir folder /home/media/Public/usenetif I set it to /tmp/usenet (did this as test) then it has no issues. My folders have cannot create the following permissions:drwxrw-r-- 2 media users 4096 Nov 2 10:29 completed drwxrw-r-- 2 media users 4096 Nov 2 14:41 nzb drwxrw-r-- 2 media users 4096 Nov 2 10:26 usenetnow the other issue I am having is that in sickbeard if I try and add existing shows and then go to add the path to the current folders I already have I just don't get any further cannot create directory than the media folder. So I'm not sure what I can do from here. Because only "media" has write permissions to your directories. SABnzbd needs write permisisons. If you use the AUR package and the rc.d script, either edit /etc/conf.d/sabnzbd to let it run as media user, or for example chown media:sabnzbd && chmod 775 or chmod 777 your folders. I tried changing the user to be media but it didn't work but I was unsure what I needed to add to this part:# If you use a username and password, change the following variable to # "user:pass@" SABNZBD_USPW=""Should it be:SABNZBD_USPW="user:pass@"?
