ON THE WINDOWS 7 MACHINE, GO TO DEVICES AND PRINTING, IF THE PRINTER IS NOT LISTED, CLICK ON ANY OTHER PRINTER ONCE AND CLICK ONTO PRINT SERVER PROPERTIES. CLICK ON DRIVERS AND SCROLL DOWN AND FIND ANY UPS DRIVERS AND REMOVE DRIVERS AND PACKAGES. GO TO UPS. COM AND DOWN LOAD THE DRIVER AND THEN DOWN LOAD THE ACTIVEX CONTROL. DO NOT RUN THE PRINT TEST PAGE FROM ZEBRA JUST YET. PLUGIN THE PRINTER USB. AND TURN ON POWER. WINDOWS WILL FIND PRINTER AND DO THEREST.NEXT IN THE WINDOWS 7 BOX, RIGHT CLICK ON THE UPS PRINTER AND CLICK ON SHARING AND SHARE THE PRINTER, CLICK ON "LIST IN THE DIRECTORY". AND CLOSE OUT THE ALL WINDOWS. GO TO XP PRO MACHINE AND THROUGH MY NETWORK PLACES FIND THE USER AND PRINTER AND CLICK ON CONNECT. IFOUND THAT INSTEAD OF TRYING TO SHARE THE PRINTER THROUGH XP PRO, I SHARED IT THROUGH WINDOWS 7 INTEAD. HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE. Shapiro Guest Hi, I'm trying to help a friend who is unable to install any printer drivers. He's trying to install an HP Laserjet 6P, but we also tried installing several other manufacturer's printer drivers and they all failed the same way. The computer was running WinXP Professional SP1 when the problem started. Installing SP2 did not change anything. The installation goes most of the way to the end, and then fails with the message: "Cannot create a file when that file already exists." Thanks for any help, Paul Shapiro Paul Shapiro, Oct 18, 2004 #1 Advertisements Cari \(MS-MVP\) Guest Ensure you uninstall any printers first... http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/CleanPrinterDrivers.htm -- Cari (MS-MVP) Windows Client https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/4eb66c6d-2bef-4bc5-8c39-3790e50acd1c/windows-cannot-connect-to-the-printer-cannot-create-a-file-when-that-file-already-exists?forum=w7itprogeneral - Printing/Imaging and Hardware www.coribright.com "Paul Shapiro" <> wrote in message news:OzIG7$... > Hi, > > I'm trying to help a friend who is unable to install any printer drivers. > He's trying to install an HP Laserjet 6P, but we also tried installing > several other manufacturer's printer drivers and they all failed the same > way. The printer is a Compaq C3-1000 which is direct connected to a Win ME computer. My XP computer is networked to the ME computer. I've set up the printer on the XP printer and it appears to be set up correct. When I try to print from Word or Notepad I receive this error. Any ideas? Jim cannot create a file when that file already exists Responses to "cannot create a file when that file already exists" Jim jtfenske Guest Posts: n/a Re: cannot create a file when that file already exists Posted: 07-30-2004, 04:51 PM I'm getting the same error using similar OS's. My Windows ME machine ha a Lexmark Z-22 direct connected to it. My XP machine is networked vi cat 5 and I can share files between both and even see the printer o the ME machine. However, I get this same error when trying to prin from my XP machine. Is this happening as a result of MS Update? I can' find any solutions to this problem on the MS site either!? - jtfensk ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Posted via http://www.mcse.m ----------------------------------------------------------------------- View this thread: http://www.mcse.ms/message872707.htm jtfenske zylawys@hotmail.com Guest Posts: n/a Cannot create a file when that file already exists Posted: 06-11-2007, 05:28 PM When mapping the computer that currently gets this error message when trying to map to a shared printer, I get this message when I'm installing the drivers. "Cannot create a file when that file already exists." 5 other computers are shared to this printer and all work fine. I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers on the host computer, even tried installing the drivers on the computer with the problem. But no matter how I try and map to this printer through the bad computer it always gives me that error message. Any ideas? Also, through my research I was read to remove all existing drivers. Is there a way to properly remove all of a spicific driver from a machine in one shot? or is there some other way? printer: HP Photosmart D5060 series computer: HP dc 7600 zylawys@hotmail.com zylawys@hotmail.com Guest Posts:
