Read a forum topic here (which cpu fan I can't find) that is a little similar. But more to the point. CPU fan error (F1) on every boot Only way to get it to start is to ignore the error (found that help here) Computer has just been put together today and the speed of the fan is not being recorded by the bios (temp is recording and running fine cpu fan error however). On a cold boot the fan seems to take a few turns and time (5-8) seconds to Specs: Processor: Core i5 2380p 3.1Ghz Motherboard: Asus P8 Z77- vLX Ram: 8Gb DDR1600Mhz Power supply: Be quiet 450W 2 Internal Fans 1 LED 1 Cooling (120mm and 140mm) off the top of my head. (One of these buggers have decided not to work [LED one]) Hard Drive: WD 1.5 TB Graphics: XFXR7850. Just to let you know the same problem occurs when only the processor is connected, hence my deductions. However I am not that good at this. Any help would be appreciated from a Scotsman. #1 grantawalsh, Aug 28, 2012 VirtualLarry Lifer Joined: Aug 25, 2001 Messages: 33,727 Likes Received: 91 First of all, is the fan from the CPU heatsink plugged into the proper FAN HEADER connector on the board? In the BIOS, do you have it set to VOLTAGE (for 3-pin fans), or PWM (for 4-pin fans)? You might just have an anomoly, where the fan doesn't spin up right away when you power on (BIOS bug?), and it trigger

My motherboard gives a CPU FAN ERROR and the fan runs at 300 rpm and the cpu stays around 34 C. Both fan cables were connected to a Y-cable which in turn was connected to an extension-cable, both supplied by Noctua, and then connected to the main CPU fan connector on the mobo. I also tried to connect it to the optional CPU fan connctor on the mobo, but still same error. I don't know how to solve the problem and I would really appriciate if someone would help me out. If yes try to use 100% instead to see if it works differently. But with my Noctua D14 there were different types of Y connected provided. One was not modifying the voltage and others were reducing the voltage to reduce the rpm and therefore the noise. Are you using the correct Y connector? if the error is the problem then you can normally disable the speed check in the bios.
