I've got a asus sabertooth 990fx cpu fan error Noctua NH-U14S for CPU cooling and it's plugged into the main CPU fan connection. The motherboard acknowledges the asus sabertooth z77 cpu fan error existence of the CPU fan but it seems to think it's running too low (it's at 568 RPM with a CPU temperature of 32C showing BIOS).
Cpu Fan Error But Fan Is Working
It seems the lowest RPM without warning is 600RPM.I'm a total noob so I'm really just clueless about if this is an actual issue or not. Is 32C for a CPU that's just showing BIOS normal? Should my CPU fan be working harder

right now and keeping the CPU cooler? If this isn't an issue, I'm guessing it's all right to lower the threshold for cpu fan warning to something closer to 400-500RPM, right? If this isn't normal and it's an actual problem, what can I do about it? I mean, the fan is recognized by the system and it seems to run, just a bit slower than the motherboard expects it to. Then again, I can't run any tests on it (playing games or stuff like that) at the moment cpu fan error press f1 to resume since I'm waiting for my OS to be delivered. My build is the following:ASUS Z87-PROIntel i7-4770kKingston DDR3 HyperX Predator 8GBNoctua NH-U14S CPU CoolerEVGA GeForce GTX770Corsair AX860 PSUThanks in advance to anyone who might be able to help me. 5 answers Last reply Sep 21, 2013 Best Answer Jul 9, 2013 More about cpu fan error boot chugot9218Jul 9, 2013, 4:55 PM If your temp is showing 32c in the BIOS, I would go ahead and lower the CPU Fan threshold. As soon as you boot up, grab a temp monitoring program (CoreTemp, RealTemp, etc..) and watch it there. If things stay pretty cool (within 5c or so of your BIOS reading), you should be good to go. Best answer geofeltJul 9, 2013, 4:57 PM I have had the same issue. In the motherboard bios, there will be some fan control settings. One sets the rpm at which a fan warning is issued. The default is likely 600 rpm.Just lower that number to 300 rpm, and you should be good. The noctua coolers run very quiet because they do not need high rpm fans. The mainboard which I bought is the Asus P9X79 Pro. The CPU is the Intel Core i7 3930K. And as cooler I've bought the Noctua NH-D14. Now when i start cpu fan the computer, sometimes I receive, after the POST, the following message:CPU Fan ErrorPress F1 to run SetupAfter a reset, the computer starts up without any problems. The problem occurs only from time to time. Thanks for help :) Edit Reply Quote & Reply bobkn VIP Member Posts : 80 Level : Tech Points : 80 From: United States Posted:2/26/2012 11:40:00 PM # 2 At a guess, the fan cpu fan error is spinning slower than the minimum in the BIOS settings. You can set the alarm RPMs as low as 200. I believe that the default is 600. Edit Reply Quote & Reply Carmelo Posts : 4 Level : Tech Points : 2 From: United States Posted:5/25/2012 10:53:00 PM # 3 Yes, this worked for me as well. Same cooler as mentioned above.Denny Edit Reply Quote & Reply Howard Moderator Posts : 1657 Level : Tech Points : 1258 From: United States Posted:12/15/2012 12:38:00 PM # 5 I would put the 140MM fan in "CPU fan" and 120MM fan in "OPT"Then try disabling CPU Q-Fan control - your PSU might not have fast enought rise time on +5VSB to full 12V. PSU also have various +5VSB wattages - 3-4-5 AMP = 15W 20W 25WJust curious, what PSU are we talking about here?IIRC there is a special standoff for 2011 sockets?http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=productview&products_id=41&lng=enhttp://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=compatibility_gen&products_id=41&lng=en Edit Reply Quote & Reply thomas VIP Member Posts :

I get a fan error on on bootup because the fans runs under 600RPM. The front fan (intake) is plugged into the cpu_opt socket and the middle fan is plugged into the cpu_fan socket. I see the fans run anywhere from 483RPM to 560RPM on boot up. My question is: 1. Is it normal for the fan to run slowly on bootup? 2. If so, should I just turn the error threshold down in the bios to? 3. Should I use the y-split cable and just plug into the cpu_fan socket or is ok to run each fan in it's own socket since this mother board has an option for two cpu fans. Thanks! Are you using the short fan cables that came with the cooler? These short cables are not extension cables, they are actually resistor cables and will slow the speed of the fan. Generally there are 2 for medium speed and 2 for slow speed. If your fan speed alarm is sounding, but your CPU temps are fine, I would lower the alarm threshold in BIOS. Make sure you check the temps first. stinky_finger Joined: Jul 12, 2012 Messages: 16 Mobo: Asus Sabertooth X79 CPU: Intel i7 -3930K Graphics: GTX 670 Mac:
