I just ran into this same issue. Windows 7 Pro, Win2003 SBS server domain, My Documents being redirected through a Group Policy Setting. My Documents redirects to \\SERVER\USERS\USERNAME. Error message that My Documents contains an invalid character. Like TS7, if the user logged in was a Domain Admin, this error did not occur. The difference between a Domain Admin and a Domain User? In my case, The Domain Admin has rights to the USERS folder I listed in the My Documents redirection path. A Domain User does not. A Domain User has full rights ONLY to their User Folder (The USERNAME) part. By giving the Domain Users READ access to the USERS folder (only that folder) the error went away. Apparently even though the user had full rights to their user folder, the fact that they didn't have any rights to the US

Here is a lengthy document on how to fix the issue by running Regedit (method 1)http://support.microsoft.com/kb/894510Alternatively here is another articlehttp://windowsxp.mvps.org/err1324.htmPlease read this and follow the link to "Reset the Shell Folders paths to defaults". From there there is a link on how to backup the registry. Very advisable that you do this before editing the registry. There is a lot of info on that last page. What you need is the regfix. Right click on the following link and "save as". http://windowsxp.mvp...hellfolders.regonce it's downloaded just double click on the file. It will prompt you about modifying your registry. computer which had changed domain servers and had an old profile I experienced this error: "Error 1324.The path My Documents or the volume is invalid. Please enter it again." This told me the my documents folder was being redirected to an invalid location. I tried right clicking on my documents in the start menu but I was unable to change the path probably because of an old group policy. I figured I would need to change it in the registry. The registry key for My Documents location is usually HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders But if it has been changed by group policy like in my case it is located here: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders The key is called personal in both locations. The way I fixed the adobe reader install problem was to change the my documents location back to a local location such as the default location of: C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents. I also changed the location of my pictures, my music and my videos for good measure. I then downloaded the full installer from Adobe's website saved it in the local my documents location and the install finished successfully. { 4 comments… read them below or add one } md November 7, 2012 at 5:19 am Great Thank you for the info!
