Error Inserting Fglrx Operation Not
From: Maine, USA Registered: 2007-04-24 Posts: 678 modprobe fglrx: operation not permitted In my ongoing struggle to get fglrx drivers to work on my computer, I decided to do a modprobe -v fglrx to see if there were any errors (my computer boots into a black screen when using the fglrx drivers). When I did a sudo modprobe -v fglrxI get the following error:FATAL: Error inserting fglrx (/lib/modules/2.6.22-ARCH/video/fglrx.ko): Operation not permitted. I tried doing a chmod 755 and 777 on the file, and I still get the same error. I think this is finally getting me on the right track to get this working. Anyone know of anything to get this working? See if anything pops up in dmesg | tail after you try modprobing. If you have the radeon or dri modules loaded, I believe they conflict with fglrx so check for that too. I don't think I'll ever get fglrx drivers working again. 08:29 PMI have installed ati 8.11 driver from ATI website and installed the *.run file. It installed well with build return code 0. I have checked the /usr/share/ati/fglrx-install.log and found to run make-install file fro, /lib/modules/fglrx. And on running the script I am getting the error FATAL: Error inserting fglrx (/lib/modules/2.6.27.5-109.fc10.x86_64/kernel/drivers/char/drm/fglrx.ko): Operation not permitted My fedora 9 is working like charm with ati 8.11 driver, but fedora 10 is with blank screen with a system hang. Your help is much appreciated on this. Thanks, Satish https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=35261 Hlingler14th November 2008, 08:35 PMThe error message seems to indicate that you do not have permission to load the FGLRX kmod. Try executing as root user. V its4mreddy14th November 2008, 08:38 PMI carried out all the installation and executed all commands as root. I googled about this error, i found some links of this error for older ati drivers, but did http://forums.fedoraforum.org/archive/index.php/t-204116.html not find any steps to fix. BobNutfield14th November 2008, 09:07 PMI was about to start a new thread, but this thread and another one today seems to answer my question. I too have been waiting for FGLRX to work in F10 for weeks now. The best I have been able to determine is that the most recent FGLRX (8.5) does not work with Xorg 1.5 which is what is installed with F10. It was driving me crazy trying to figure out why the driver shows up for download in the Add/Remove software for the lastest kernels, but wil not work. Apparently this is still the case. FGLRX does not work with this version of Xorg. its4mreddy14th November 2008, 09:27 PMif it is the case why it is working (along with compiz cube) in my f9, its also having the Xorg 1.5 like f10. I believe, it is something else that is causing the issue.... a blank screen in f10... I even copied the xorg.conf from f9 to f10.... This is driving me crazy... I cant use my compiz in f10,

I'm trying to run an older X server compiled with apt-build from the Intrepid sources on Jaunty. There were a few rough spots getting that working, but it's working now and I have X.org server 1.5.2 running with fglrx, but no 3D acceleration or direct rendering. I cannot load the fglrx kernel module and the drm module at the same time. To be specific, I'm certain I've tried every possible combination of kernels 2.6.28-11 and 2.6.27-11 with Catalyst 8.12, 9.1 and 9.3. There's also a firepro_8.583 package that claims
