These are available in the Ubuntu/Debian kernel.. ./kernel/drivers/char/ipmi ./kernel/drivers/char/ipmi/ipmi_msghandler.ko ./kernel/drivers/char/ipmi/ipmi_devintf.ko ./kernel/drivers/char/ipmi/ipmi_poweroff.ko ./kernel/drivers/char/ipmi/ipmi_si.ko ./kernel/drivers/char/ipmi/ipmi_watchdog.ko The ipmitool uses the device - '/dev/ipmi0' - this currently needs to manually created, by hand. The 'ipmievd.init.basic' script supplied with the package does not work, and gives the following errors: ----- Setting up OpenIPMI driver... FATAL: Module ipmi_kcs_drv not found. FATAL: Error inserting ipmi_si (/lib/modules/2.6.20-14-generic/kernel/drivers/char/ipmi/ipmi_si.ko): No such device ------ Tags: kernel-key Ed

The installation process runs for some time and then always stops at the following error message FATAL: Error inserting ipmi_si (lib/modules/3.2.0-31-generic/kernel/drivers/char/ipmi/ipmi_si.ko): No such device Has anybody some advice as to how this can be fixed? regards Sandro virtualbox maas share|improve this question edited May 21 '13 at 12:28 Raja 38.2k59174254 asked May 21 '13 at 12:01 Sandor 2112 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 error inserting ipmi_si active oldest votes up vote 7 down vote The failure that you see is because this is a virtual machine. The ipmi_si related stuff will only work on real hardware, so the error doesn't really affect your case scenario and you don't really need a fix for it. A good idea would be if you were able to post the output of /proc/cpuinfo so that we can make sure that the module above is not loaded on Virtual Box VM's. share|improve this answer edited May 21 '13 at 14:44 Jorge Castro 24.3k91386589 answered May 21 '13 at 14:16 Andres Rodriguez 1,02957 Thanks for the quick answer. –Sandor May 22 '13 at 8:19 For some reason, later that day, the commission-process finished.
