Error Inserting Snd Hda Codec
sound card cannot be identified and there is no sound on my system.... I am using Asus P5KR onboard sound card. It was using "snd-hda-intel" module. From lspci -v , I can see kernal module actually can detect the sound card. However, form aplay -l It say aplay: device_list:221: no soundcard found... I've tried to change the file /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base to have options snd-hda-intel model=3stack, and reload the module. But it doesn't help.... Anything I can do to solve the problem? I've checked http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=205449 but still don't have hint ivanxxMay 3rd, 2011, 08:06 PMsame problem here, lspci correctly identifies the card as an ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA) (rev 40) but the corresponding module fails to register with the following messages: FATAL: Error inserting snd (/lib/modules/2.6.38-8-generic/kernel/sound/acore/snd.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg) WARNING: Error running install command for snd WARNING: Error inserting snd_pcm (/lib/modules/2.6.38-8-generic/kernel/sound/acore/snd-pcm.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg) WARNING: Error inserting snd_hwdep (/lib/modules/2.6.38-8-generic/kernel/sound/acore/snd-hwdep.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg) WARNING: Error inserting snd_hda_codec (/lib/modules/2.6.38-8-generic/kernel/sound/pci/hda/snd-hda-codec.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg) FATAL: Error inserting snd_hda_intel (/lib/modules/2.6.38-8-generic/kernel/sound/pci/hda/snd-hda-intel.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg) The module was compiled and installed from the latest package available at http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false#2, which is dated 28th april 2011. Any help will be extremely appreciated ):P carfieldMay 4th, 2011, 06:42 PMCool, so once there is kernal update, it should be fixed, right? ivanxxMay 4th, 2011, 08:44 PMHope so!, in the meantime, I followed the instructions given here (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1681577) to download/compile/install the 1.0.24 version of Alsa... aaand I've got sound back!!. Lots of trouble though. Had to install another soundcard (old SB0040 emu10k) in order to make the system bring snd drivers to life. After booting with both cards present I've got audio in the intel-hda (optical output in this case), but no control with the sliders in alsamixer, being pulseaudio's controls the only way to handle the output volume... Give it a try, maybe you'll get better results... :) lidexMay 4th, 2011, 11:27 PM@carfie
Playing with probe_mask Choosing Your Model Extra Hints to Get Sound Working Solution for Apple Macs Update to the Latest Version of ALSA Troubleshooting dmesg shows "disagrees about version of symbol" and "Unknown symbol" for snd_ctl_add, etc alsa-utils don't compile Caveats Links Another solution As of 2012, much of the information on this page is outdated. Please refer to the official sound debugging guide and Ubuntu Audio Development team's pages for more up-to-date information. Booting If your boot hangs on loading the module for snd-hda-intel, try disabling the card in your BIOS. It is called "HD Audio Controller", "Azalia Audio" or similar. Then try solving the problem using the instructions below. Identify https://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1747603.html the Problem Most cards seem to work as of Ubuntu 9.04 or later using the stock kernel. However, the following problems might occur on some setups: No sound at all Low volume output High pitched noise Poor sound quality Sound disappears when touching volume controls Sound works at random after each reboot No mic working Sound only plays through headphones or internal speakers (not through attached audio sets) Manually https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HdaIntelSoundHowto Specify Module Parameters First you must find which model of sound card you use, so run this command: cat /proc/asound/card0/codec* | grep CodecIt will return model of your sound card(s), for example: "Codec: Realtek ALC260", so your sound card is ALC260. You should open a file in ALSA documentation. This file is here: /usr/share/doc/alsa-base/driver/HD-Audio-Models.txt.gzor if that file does not exist, try: /usr/share/doc/alsa-base/driver/ALSA-Configuration.txt.gzor check: HD-Audio-Models (If you compiled your own kernel or ALSA modules, the documentation for your version can probably be found in the source package you used) Search for your model, and take a look at its types, for example I found the following lines for ALC260: hp HP machines hp-3013 HP machines (3013-variant) fujitsu Fujitsu S7020 acer Acer TravelMate basic fixed pin assignment (old default model) auto auto-config reading BIOS (default)Read all of them and try to find the one which is more similar to your sound card, for example if you have a laptop, you can choose "acer". Open /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base with the following command: sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-baseIn Ubunty Jaunty and more recent, the file ends with .conf : sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.confThen paste the following line at the end of the file (change MODEL with the type of sound card's model, in our exa
