I apologize in advance if this is a basic question! I just downloaded the latest version of Miranda, 0.7.3, and I can sign into my Google talk account and my yahoo account, but I keep getting the error message, "an unknown error occurred when attempting to connect", when AIM tries to connect. Any advice on this? Also, I don't use ICQ. Is there a way to get Miranda to stop trying to connect to it? Thanks from a newbie. Regarding AIM error, you may first try to upgrade to Miranda 0.7.4 RC2 and if it still occurs, try to enable network logging in Options > Network > Logging, capture a logging attempt and post the file to a host of your choice. Fix some iChat connection problems Apr 18, '12 07:30:00AM • Contributed by: kirkmc There are days when I cannot connect to iChat's servers - well, actually to http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20120417033810112 the AIM servers that iChat uses. The fix is simple yet odd. I use SSL with iChat, and all it takes to get the connection is to turn it off. Go https://community.developer.authorize.net/t5/Integration-and-Testing/Intermittent-connection-issue-AIM-An-existing-connection-was/td-p/45817 to iChat > Preferences > Accounts, click on your account, then click on the Server Settings tab. You must be offline to make changes here. If you have Use SSL checked, error occurred uncheck it, then connect. Disconnect, then reconnect it, if you still want to use SSL. I don't know why this works, but it does. • Currently 4.00 / 5 You rated: 1 / 5 (5 votes cast) [15,270 views] Hint Options Printable Hint Format Subscribe to 'macosxhints.com application tips' Fix some iChat connection problems | 2 comments | Create New an error occurred Account Newest First Oldest First Flat Nested No Comments Threaded Click here to return to the 'Fix some iChat connection problems' hint The following comments are owned by whoever posted them. Since AIM introduced the option (Or rather it was added to the AIM side of iChat) the SSL servers AIM have had do not seem to maintain the same connection status as the regular AIM servers (i.e Drop outs are more frequent). One "Fix" is to turn SSL Off. The other is to Log the Account/Screen Name off the Aim servers Fully (iChat Preferences Untick "Use this Account") then Log back In again.
