Error Occurred While Registering the Form in the OLE Registry Error Occurred While Registering the Form in the OLE Registry By Matt Gerrard eHow Contributor Matt Gerrard Follow http://www.ehow.com/info_7811142_error-registering-form-ole-registry.html Pin Share Tweet Share Email Save Email LCD display https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/78669-error-setting-up-an-appointment-in-outlook-2003 image by Alex Yeung from Fotolia.com Microsoft's Outlook email client is one of the most widely used in the world. Its included calendar and meeting functions make it useful for those with busy schedules. It also allows the creation of custom elements, tailored to each user. Error message Outlook can include a error occurred number of custom forms, from meeting request slips to email templates. You may not even be aware you have created them. For many people, the first time they are aware they are using a non-standard form is when they encounter the error message: "The form you selected could not be displayed. An error occurred registering the form in the OLE registry." Root Cause What an ole registration this error means is that the permissions required to alter Outlook's default forms (by using a custom one) do not seem to be present on your account. While you may normally have these privileges, they have not been detected during this particular session. The registry is the component of Windows that controls settings and configuration data. It restricts access to sensitive or critical areas of Windows to prevent them from being corrupted or altered. To use custom forms in Outlook, you need permission to access the registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\CLSID. For a number of possible reasons, your permission to access this key has not been found, so the registry prevents you from using your form. Resolution Log onto your machine as an administrator, or ask your network administrator to log on for you. Open Windows Explorer and click the "Tools" menu, then "Folder Options." Check the box next to "Show hidden Files and Folders." Navigate to the drive where Windows is installed (usually the C:). Click through to the following location, substituting your user name, for "USER-NAME" in the path: C:\Documents and Settings\USER-NAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft. Creating your account only takes a few minutes. Join Now I have a user who, when trying to setup a meeting/appointment in Outlook 2003 is getting the following error message: An error occurred registering the form in the OLE registry. I have checked Microsoft's support site and the closest thing I could find was: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320835 and I have tried going through the steps suggested, but the user still gets the same message. Any suggestions? Are you up-to-date with Service Packs on this client? If you are running Exchange Server, can they do it logged on from another computer or Outlook Web Access? Have you tried running a repair on Outlook 2003? When you tried the Knowledge Base article, did you confirm that the user is a member of the local admins group on this PC? 0 Serrano OP Dave S. Sanchez Oct 5, 2009 at 1:01 UTC Nope, no oracle here. 0 Thai Pepper OP Rusty4508 Oct 5, 2009 at 1:03 UTC Have you tried a reinstall? (through Add/Remove Programs) 0 Serrano OP Dave S. Sanchez Oct 5, 2009 at 1:08 UTC @Jason W We are up to date with the service packs on the client. We are running Exchange Server, but we have not had the chance to have her log into another PC to test (given that we have no spare PCs kicking around right now and the user is currently in the middle of trying to do an RFP. When they go on lunch, I am taking another look at it). Haven't tried the Web Access yet either (due to the user's need to get their documentation done), but will try that as soon as I can. I didn't think to check to see if the user was local admin at the time as a couple of months ago they had the same issue and we used the same process at that time to fix
