› Acronis True Image Home Forum - Older Versions 43618: "An error occurred while opening the backup archive", also obtaining version used? Login to post comments 14 replies [Last post] Sat, 2013-07-27 20:34 William Gault Offline Beginner Joined: 2013-07-27 Posts: 23 Send PM: Send PM I was recently supplied a .tib file from a company which required me to investigate an issue with their server. Since I didn't have Acronis True Image prior to this, I decided to purchase it since the cost seems fair and the product may be a better alternative to what we're using now. However upon opening this file I receive the error "An error occurred while opening the backup archive. Cannot continue the operation because the backup is corrupted, or it is being used by another process, or you do not have enough permissions to perform the operation." I ensured I wasn't suffering from a permissions issue reported by others. I read other users reporting that different versions of Acronis True Image can cause this issue; if I'm using the latest version through my recent purchase, does that negate this version issue as a possibility? Is there any way to use a hex editor to determine the version they used when they created the .tib file? The drive it was provided on was not corrupted and the client states that the image was dumped successfully so whatever the issue is, they say its on my end. The file is a single large .tib file with no additional files, am I perhaps missing a file? From what I read, there's no way to fix a corrupted .tib file or extract its contents? Thanks in advance Top Login to post comments Sat, 2013-07-27 22:24 #1 tuttle Offline Acronis MVP Volunteer Joined: 2011-11-05 Posts: 3581 Send PM: Send PM Where is the .tib backup located? "Corrupted" is, unfortunately, a rather non-specific error message, in spite of its rather specific sounding term. It really just means that ATI can't validate the archive, which can be caused by disk errors or connection errors, rather than any problems with the .tib file itself. __________________ I am not staff and am not paid.

I had a hard drive http://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/an-error-occurred-when-opening-archive.175310/ crash on me, but I had the image backed up on an external hard drive. But when I try to access it, I get a message that says "This is not the last created volume of the http://www.cyberlink.com/support/product-faq-content.do?id=12811& backup archive. Please insert the last created volume to start working with this archive." Well, this is the ONLY created archive, and I NEED the data. When I try to explore the archive file, I get an error occurred error message that says: An error occurred when opening archive: Archive is invalid or its type is unsupported.
