It was working http://stackoverflow.com/questions/38186837/visual-studio-crashes-when-type-something-in-the-code-editor until friday. Something happened over weekend. I have 5 projects ( 4 Class Libraries & 1 web project) in my solution. VS gets crashed only when i try to type something in the code editor of a Data project which is a class library. I am using EF Code First but i don't think this issue is related to code. This could be related to something else. I have looked into Activity.log and found that it's due to some corrupt ComponentCache. I cleared ComponentModelCache but still problem persists. Any suggestion is hightly appreciated. Activity.log entry is pasted below for your reference. I am sure many of you must have experienced this issue.

Today, when I'd started my PC after yesterday's Windows 7 / Office updates I started my VS 2013 Update 3 and http://www.sebastiangruchacz.pl/2014/10/17/visual-studio-fixing-annoying-bug-code-5455/ tried working on some project. But whenever I tried opening file with code I've been given a strange error message. From the message it looked like some problems with settings. So I tried to make http://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/import-error-blackspears-settings.198261/ a screenshot of the error window (because of locking focus) and pasted it into MS Paint. This is what I've got: Ok, I had my phone with me so I was able to work around error occurred the issue: Now I was able to go to the Options and try to find what might cause it. Unfortunately most of tabs had not been working and some ("All Languages" if I recall correctly) even caused VS to restart… Then I decided to reset all settings. And then I received something similar to what was described several months ago in following ticket: Cannot open any code files When I try error occurred while to open up a C# code file an error pops up. The error that occurs states that "No EditorOptionDefinition export found for the given option name: Adornments/HighlightCurrentLine/Enable Parameter name: optionId" I tried to reset my settings but I then received the following error "Your settings were reset, but there were some errors. Error 1: Task List Display Settings: The tasklist format has changed. Error 2: An error occurred while importing settings for ‘All Languages' [code 5455]. Error 3: An error occurred while importing settings for ‘Basic' [code 5455]. Error 4: An error occurred while importing settings for ‘C/C++' [code 5455]. (…) Error 18: An error occurred while importing settings for ‘XAML' [code 5455]. Error 19: An error occurred while importing settings for ‘XML' [code 5455]." (I added a bit of formatting to exaggerate core issues.) Unfortunately this issue has been closed (as not reproducible) so I could not comment on it, but I'd read it to the bottom. I've found that i

"Error occurred....not completed...etc" Am I missing something obvious? Cheers OzBoz, Jan 23, 2008 #1 Bubba Updates Team Joined: Apr 15, 2002 Posts: 11,271 Not that it should matter but how did you actually download the file ? Meaning, did you right click the file and select Save Target As..., which should have a name Blackspears Settings.xml ? Also, does it appear to be a Nod error message or a Windows error message ? I'm not at a workstation to try and in case it matters, since most of the settings are applied to the Local_Machine portion of the registry, does this user have Windows Admin rights ? BubbaClick to expand... Thanks Bubba, I right click and save target as....Blackspears Settings.xml The error dialogue is headed "Import Settings" and looks like a Windows message. Single user computer XP SP2 with full admin rights. This has got to be something so stupidly simple, and I'm missing it. Possibly not because as you know it's only about a 3 step process. Have you attempted to do it again just in case you selected the wrong file when the Open box came up to locate the file ? Also, have you attempted to download the file again in case it got corrupted in transit ? What happens if you export your present settings and then attempt to import that xml file, same error ?
