October 14, 2015October 14, 2015 ~ Gautam Recently I ran into this error for couple of times. Both the times this issue was due to the ‘&’ character in the address field of the XML message

being processed in BizTalk. ‘&’ is basically an invalid XML character along with an error occurred while parsing entityname nuget following and should be replaced / encoded before using them in XML. There is better / nicer way of achieving the error occurred while parsing signed message same outcome by using SecurityElement.Escape method under System.Security namespace in .NET 4.5 and above. Here Escape method will replace “&” with “&”. This method basically replaces invalid XML characters in a string with their valid http://stackoverflow.com/questions/23541910/an-error-occurred-while-parsing-entityname-line1-position-844 XML equivalent. So its always better to use this method while processing the address or other fields from XML message where the content of the field may contain invalid XML characters. Jul 16, 2003 03:16 PM|mittalpa|LINK Hi, http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=53640&page=5&highlight=media+companion I am trying to read an XML file using XmlDocument.LoadXml() function. This xml has data which contains special characters like & (ampersand). But it fails saying "An error occurred while parsing EntityName. Line 1, error occurred position 31." How can I make this xml string valid before passing to LoadXML() function. Please advise. Thanks Pankaj Reply kaevans None 0 Points 230 Posts Microsoft Re: special charcters in XML??? Jul 16, 2003 03:28 PM|kaevans|LINK The document must be well-formed before loading into XmlDocument. Can you post a snippet of the offending XML? The "&" must be escaped as "&", and is only allowable in content (the error occurred while content of a text node or the value of an attribute, it cannot be used as the name of an element or attribute). Dec 22, 2003 03:07 PM|rbrother|LINK So the issue is that the XML file should not have been created with a '&'(poorly formed) in the first place. Christmas seen Media Companion finally move to open source. There are already half a dozen developers signed up, and at least a couple of them are very active. It will probably take a while to clean the code up and iron out some of the bugs, but I would imagine that in a month or two you should start to see some big improvements. MC is being developed on CodePlex, and if anyone is interested in working on this project then we would be happy to see you. http://mediacompanion.codeplex.com/ Latest version Download Version 3.400 TV Show Support has now been added to the latest build. As people reading the Media Companion forum, I have had great difficulty finding time to continue development of this project alone on my own. After much consideration I have decided that perhaps the best option is to make the whole project open source, and hopefully increase development of the program. Following advice I have uploaded the code to CodePlex, the project can be found at http://mediacompanion.codeplex.com/ and will be licenced under GPLv2 I know that this is likely a busy time for most people but for those who have expressed a willingness to get involved I will be happy to add people to the project, there is no doubt a lot to do with perhaps the first order of business probably being to clean up the code and identify buggy areas.
