The only possible backup operation is a tail-log backup using the WITH CONTINUE_AFTER_ERROR or NO_TRUNCATE option.BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly. The database is accessible and is being used. I ran checkdb and did not come up with anything. I haven't used T-SQL. I have only used enterprise manager and my maintenance plans. For ages now I've been unable to set a filegroup to read https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/318d0d4c-2ed7-4aca-becb-89f462e84460/an-error-occurred-while-processing-backupmetadata-metadata-for-database?forum=sqldisasterrecovery only mode. When I try to do this I receive the error message shown in the subject line.Thinking that some kind of corruption is present I removed the filegroup in question and created a new one with a different name.I created this and the subsequent file config for it and have created two tables in it.All this was fine, but when I then try to set the mode of http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/Topic1356403-391-1.aspx the filegroup to read only the error still happens!Does anyone have any idea why I'm getting this error and more importantly, how I can fix it.RegardsSteve Post #1356403 « Prev Topic | Next Topic » Permissions You cannot post new topics. I'm getting the following error:TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio------------------------------Backup failed for Server 'XXXXX'. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo)For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&ProdVer=9.00.1399.00&EvtSrc=Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.ExceptionTemplates.FailedOperationExceptionText&EvtID=Backup+Server&LinkId=20476------------------------------ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: An error occurred while processing 'BackupMetadata' metadata for database id 5 file id 65538. Some googling hasn't really helped. dbcc shows nothing. I've since tried removing the full text catalogs (that's what the file_id references in sys.database_files), but the 65538 file_id remains. So, if anyone knows how I can get around this to backup my data, I'd love to know. rmiao Flowing Fount of Yak Knowledge USA 7266 Posts Posted-04/16/2008: 22:00:44 How did you backup db? ksql32 Starting Member 15 Posts Posted-04/17/2008: 11:40:23 I've never been able to successfully backup this db. there is a secondary log file in defunct state preventing database backup to complete. We have done our own research and opened a case with Microsoft, but so far there is not much progress on that. I plan to discuss this case with Microsoft CSS engineers at the upcoming PASS Summit in Seattle this week, so I use this post to detail this issue and our environment to facilitate the discusson.
