This network error occurs when trying to join a computer https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/285182 to a domain. Unable to join to a domain even with the right domain name and network settings. This error occurs with Microsoft Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2012, and other Microsoft operating systems. Here is the one of the solutions that I used to get rid off this error message. Please follow the instruction below to fix. 01. Go to Windows https://www.pntbrother.com/domain-error-message-the-following-error-occurred-attempting-to-join-the-domain/ Start Menu -> Run and then type cmd. 02. Type ipconfig/flushdns to reset. 03. I did some research and I think it may be DNS related. I checked the DNS event log on the server and found that their are a lot of errors. Their are several error occurred a day. The error is below. I have one DNS server on site and four others off site. They are all AD integrated. All DNS servers are also Domain Controllers. I removed stale records and cleared the DNS cache. I double checked to make sure I was not trying to add a computer name that was already part of the domain. Are they working?Troubleshooting steps:> run ipconfig/all and make sure that you have been give DNS address from DHCP server.> try to ping DNS server (which could be your AD server)> run nslookup utility on windows XP and try to resolve domain (FQDN). We have configured our DHCP scope and in scope option we have mentioned DNS server addresses that we want clients to use.
