only takes a minute: Sign up Eclipse: Error occurred during initialization of VM up vote 2 down vote favorite A few days I started getting this eror message when debugging my eclipse RCP: Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap Error: Could not create the Java Virtual Machine. Error: A fatal exception has error occurred during initialization of vm mac occurred. Program will exit. I used to restart my stystem if that occured which fixed it but today even a restart didn't work anymore. Can anyone please give me a hint why this is suddenly appearing. Those are the VM arguments I'm using: -Dosgi.requiredJavaVersion=1.5 -Xmx2048m -Xms1024m -Dosgi.locking=none -XX:MaxPermSize=256m java eclipse share|improve this question asked Nov 16 '15 at 7:23 Markus 523723 1 2048m can be difficult for a 32 bit Java to allocate. If possible switch to a 64 bit Java (or use less memory). –greg-449 Nov 16 '15 at 7:52 Thannk you greg. From your hint I got the idea to reduce the amount of memory being allocated and it starts now again (-Xmx1024m -Xms512m). –Markus Nov 16 '15 at 7:58 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote Try to fix it with: Go to Start->Control Panel->System->Advanced(tab)->Environment Variables->System Variables->New: Variable name: _JAVA_OPTIONS Variable value: -Xmx512M share|improve this answer answered Nov 16 '15 at 7:32 Visky G 612 I've been trying your advice but as fa

Jboss Error Occurred During Initialization Of Vm
it only takes a minute: Sign up Tomcat problem - Could not reserve enough space up vote 3 down vote favorite 2 I am running server with 256MB RAM. Maximum heap size I can allocate for Java is 110MB. When http://stackoverflow.com/questions/33730241/eclipse-error-occurred-during-initialization-of-vm I add those param to JAVA_OPTS I can run java -version. Problem is that I can not run Tomcat with these parameters. Maximum heap size for Tomcat to run is 40MB. I do not know why I can not allocate more memory? Of course I get error: Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap Could not create the Java virtual machine. java tomcat memory heap heap-memory share|improve this question asked Jun 4 http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6235701/tomcat-problem-could-not-reserve-enough-space '11 at 8:40 ZenQW 156124 Are you sure enough memory remains for this size of heap? Check free memory space on your server. –Farshid Zaker Jun 4 '11 at 8:42 My main problem is: why I can not allocate 110MB to Tomcat heap size if I can do it for Java? –ZenQW Jun 4 '11 at 8:57 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote Set CATALINA_OPTS to -Xmx110m, JAVA_OPTS. I suppose you could set both, to be sure. share|improve this answer answered Jun 4 '11 at 8:43 Sean Owen 49.2k1393143 I also tried setting CATALINA_OPTS to -Xmx110m and I get error. –ZenQW Jun 4 '11 at 8:56 add a comment| up vote 2 down vote The Xmx flag may be ignored when you run the java executable with the -version flag. This depends on how you pass the version flag. The following are the results on my machine with 2GB RAM: Version flag passed before Xmx C:\Users\Reynolds>java -version -Xmx10240M java version "1.6.0_21" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_21-b07) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 17.0-b17, mixed mode, sharing) which is weird considering that 10G is beyond the max addressable limit on memory in a 32-bit environment. Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap Could not create the Java virtual machine. It doesn't make sense because I have plenty of free error occurred memory available. A reboot solves the problem - a popular enough solution for Windows. Still, rebooting to fix something that should be working leaves me with a bad feeling. The OS has enough memory, and I am on a 64-bit Windows 7 machine so this should not be an issue. Here is what the WebLogic startup command error occurred during outputs: $ startWebLogic.cmd JAVA Memory arguments: -Xms256m -Xmx512m -XX:CompileThreshold=8000 -XX:PermSize=48m -XX:MaxPermSize=128m WLS Start Mode=Development ....snipped.... starting weblogic with Java version: java version "1.6.0_24" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_24-b50) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 19.1-b02, mixed mode) Starting WLS with line: ....snipped.... Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap Could not create the Java virtual machine. In researching the problem, it turned out my version of WebLogic was pointed at a 32-bit version of Java… The problem here is, the 32-bit version of Java requires a contiguous block of memory. My machine had been running for some time. Even though I had ample free memory, there was not a single block of free memory large enough to accommodate the JVM. There is no way I could find to ‘defrag' RAM in Windows 7 other than to reboot, which I'd like to avoid. The solution is to point WebLogic at a 64-bit JDK. This can be done by editing {weblogic in
