Solution This error is being caused because the primary domain controller is not specified as the first DNS server in your TCP/IP settings on the system that you're trying to join to the domain. Even if your domain controller is not your DNS server, temporarily set the IP http://www.proposedsolution.com/solutions/join-domain-windows-7-2008-server/ address of the domain controller as your first DNS server, join the domain and then change your DNS Server settings back to the way they were before.
